ttax deluxe (with state) is $40, quicken is $30, u get far on the quicken with ttax, and omax sends u a gift card... probably get it in time for tax season next year...

the ttax rebates are fast, tho... i've done this deal every year for many years...

The problem with these deals is:
(1) I don't upgrade my Quicken except every few years.
I just replaced Quicken 2000 Deluxe with Quicken 2005 Deluxe
(2) I prefer Quicken Deluxe over Quicken Basic, as I actually use the Deluxe features.
The "free" Quicken is the basic version.
(3) I bought TurboTax Deluxe 1 time, and found that I was just as happy with Basic.
You can get TurboTax Basic for $20, out the door.

So, if you have no use for Quicken Basic 2006, you are getting TurboTax Deluxe for
the price of TurboTax Basic, discounting the sales tax and stamps for the rebates,
plus you have a gift card as opposed to cash. I buy enough stuff at OfficeMax that the
card is as good as cash.

I will be curious to see how the copy protection stuff goes with Ttax this year, after
last year's debacle. I was going to switch to TaxCut if they did that again.

Those are really not "problems" with the deal. (1) Shoppers who don't want Quicken shouldn't buy it, but it is almost free (net) for those who do want it. (2) Quicken Deluxe is available for anybody who wants to buy it. (3) TurboTax Deluxe includes a free state, so for people resident in a state with income tax (that's most people), Deluxe is a better buy after the gift card than Basic.

thanks for doing the typing, bp...

lh, those are all lovely points that are what is called 'thread crapping' since they are virtually irrelevant to the deal...

if u don't like it, don't do it... if u have a better deal, post it... ^= either of those, stfu...

Clueless, I think you are way out of line...and wish to point out a few salient facts, however, I don't wish to start a war.
For a newby to Quicken basic, deluxe or otherwise, lh's was a pretty informative post and thusly did not crap on your OP which does nothing to point out the differences among any Quicken packages.

Yes, he expressed his ideas about Quicken/TurboTax, all valid, IMHO. I would have very little to dispute with most of them, same for yours in the OP.

That said, I would like to thank you for saving me about $20 as I had just gotten the Deluxe TT from Costco for about $60. Sorry if my math is not super acurate...

However, "stfu" is way over the top and totally unwarranted. Please, keep it civil.

This is a very good deal, I was even about to post it myself.

$40 out the door, then a $20 GC by mail is the best I have seen so far.

Worthy to note: Amazon has it for $34.95 with free shipping....however the deal at officemax is better, IMO.

One bit of constructive criticism for cubeless: A proof read pass on the deal would be a good thing. Also, do not forget to find a link to the deal so that people can look at the ad.

Just a FYI, for those just after TT-deluxe...and are a costco member...

Costco has it for $33...and there's a $10 coupon just came out.

So that's $23, and I'm a Amex+exec, so I get back another %2....

brainfree,

for anyone who has never used quicken his comments are bull5hit... a free copy of basic is a great way to get to know quicken...

and i thought my reply was pretty civil, in that i still believe that the post was pure crapping...

and you are welcome...

and to longhorn,

really, pi55 off... your second injection of fud (about the activation... yes, it was annoying if you wanted to steal the software last year) is just more uninformed trolling... there is no activation this year! but please! go use someone elses software and leave this thread alone!!!

i saw the deal in the newspaper add sunday morning... i'm pretty good, but i can't link to my paper yet... maybe next week...

i just posted the deal as a quickie to let people who may not have the newspaper know it was out there... if i'd have known that this thread was going to be this dopey i wouldn't have posted it at all...

happy new year...

Quicken basic is little more than a demo that should be free, but I have been an irked user for too many years. Paying once for a checkbook program was bad, but Intuit is second only to microsoft in the forced upgrade business. OTOH once hooked, ya just have to try and get your fix when its on sale.

Was just looking at the Amazon deal. If you add Norton AntiVirus or Norton Personal Firewall, you get another $5 off. (Need to "upgrade" the Norton product)

Does anyone know if there is a Quicken Deluxe upgrade rebate?

"stfu" and "pi55 off" are civilized?

I was pointing out that I am as happy with TurboTax basic as I was with Deluxe. The point about the free state is a good one,
and one I overlooked since we don't have state income tax in Texas.

As for the activation comment, you're right it's not directly pertinant to the deal, but I would not put it down as a major
breach of ettiquitte. Not as rude as putting "stfu" in a post, for example.

Did not mean to thread-crap, and sorry you took it that way.

Happy new year to you!

I still use Quicken.... but I quit on TurboTax a few years back when they had the activation/registration fiasco. Went with TaxCut that year and haven't forgiven Intuit yet for the way they treated customers who bought TurboTax.

You usually can get similar deals with TaxCut, 'cept you get MS Money (which I dont use) as one of the freebies 'stead of Quicken. I'm holding out for the free shredder like last year from Staples or ChumpUSA I think it was.

The activation/registration/copy protection mess with TurboTax shouldn't be overlooked as part of any decision.

LINK to TaxAct Thread

which is a good alternative to TurboTax

I'm still boycotting TurboTax since the C-Dilla spyware install a few years ago -- and have been using TaxAct for the last 3 or 4 years.

BTW theres a thread started on TaxCut for $9.99 or less by PMing Staples to WalMart.

and I've used the Free TaxAct online thing for simple returns (I do several each year) and it ain't bad either

Not that hot OP. If you check out that TaxCut thread and see that as a comparable piece of software this is cold. Don't jump on people for stating their opinion. It's not like he said, "You suck for posting this crap deal!" or casually said, "Not hot," and didn't explain anything. That is crapping in my opinion. He was just pointing some things out. And IMO GC=MIR but that's another thing.

Anyway, IMO it is an ok find if you want Quicken AND TurboTax and shop at OM. Thanks.

I just confirmed a price of $28.99 at a Texas Costco (no site of the rumored $10 off coupon to be seen)...... so if you loathe mail-in rebates, that is as good as it gets.

IMO, I will still pick up the OfficeMax deal later this week.

However, do not wait too long. The closer we get to tax time, the faster the incentives will disapear.
