I have used their online software in the past years and don't want to install any software on my computer if I don't have to.

Taxcut basic is downloadable for free.

You have to pay for e-filing and also the State version

The price in store is the price before coupon.

I asked if they would give me the after coupon price, as I had forgotten to bring the coupon with me. The girl at the customer service desk said that I had to buy it and come back later with the coupon and receipt and they would refund the difference.

I will just post out that i typically use the online version of the TaxCut product for typical 1040 form returns. I go through the links that are listed on the IRS.gov or in my case a local bank. No charges unless you efile. It also keeps all your info to carry over year to year for filling in returns.


If you use the online version you should link through the discounted links on the irs.gov or the ones your banking institution might provide (every time its accessed). I like this allot better than installing the software.

How fast can you get your taxes done with this stuff? I've always done mine by hand... is this worth it?

That depends entirely on the complexity of your return. If yours only takes a few minutes to prepare by hand and you're confident that you won't forget something, I don't see any reason to spend the time installing, updating and fiddling with software. But prep of more complex returns is much faster and easier with any of these applications, particularly in subsequent years because you will already know how to use them and because much useful info is carried over.

Yes, it's the same price in-store, but you need the coupon. If you didn't sign up for the coupon mailer, try getting it from customer service.

The big benefit is that information that is not normally changed is retained, so you do not have to enter it repeatedly.

For simple tax returns that used to come with a peel off sticker, where a calculator with a couple of wage stubs existed, the Tax S/W would not save you any real time.

When calculations that require pulling in data from multiple entries and forms, the S/W saves effort and mistakes.

S/W also allows you to play what if scenarios quickly.
