I can't find any mention on Turin compatibility. I just made a lowball offer on a Turin 64 core ES.

Does anybody have any info in this I missed ?

They are supposed to be SP5 socket and a direct replacement for Zen4 .
I would check your motherboard manufacturer website for possible bios updates.

So, I am excited that Turin is officially announced, and blows Genoa out of the water. Should not be long before I get my BIOS.

Unless the Genoa mother is not supported, in which case I need a new motherboard and memory (6000 instead of 4800)

Oh, and for those of you that think the 9950x is only marginally better, check out the benchmarks linked on the CPU forum. Its absolutely a KILLER. Makes Genoa look like its standing still ! Both Tomshardware and phoronix !

OK. I am downloading the BIOS for the Turin, (but the motherboard has to be rev 2.0)

Bios 3.0 !! Not tonight but will work on it tomorrow if my motherboard is rev 2.0 !

Link here, but then you have to search for H13ssl !

DAMN, my motherboard is rev 1.01 .. I have to buy a new one !

I just order one from newegg. $669, but if its not the right revision, they accept returns ??? Without return shipping charges ??? amazon is $799 !

If I have to return it and get one from amazon for $799, I will do it ! I also need 6000 memory ! Thats a minimum of $1200 for 12 sticks.

So, I went to order 6000 memory. Only 8 available on amazon, and 2 on newegg. I got the 8 for now. I don't want mixed.

So, if I am right I will have the correct motherboard, but probably not the right bios, and only 128 gig of ram, but it will be 6000 so only 8 slots instead of 12. and at the EARLIESTS on the 16th. I will keep you all informed.

Edit: I found a 4 pack of the same memory at newegg. $489. So about $1400 for memory ! OUCH !!!

Does DC really need that much RAM? Anyway you could do some tests to show the difference using different RAM configurations?

Some tasks use over 1GB per so I always get 2GB per thread to allow for OS overhead and GPU tasks which can also use several GB of system RAM depending on the project.

The big reason is to use all 12 channels for the memory. An8 12 8 gig sticks is not enough, so 192 gig is the only config that works (with identical sticks, which you want)

So, memory tomorrow, motherboard on the 16th, new HSF 18-30 (but I have something that will suffice temporarily)

So it should be up by the 20th or 21st, just in time for the next PG race, but I will try a unit or 8 before just to have something to compare to. I will have a 9554 start at the same time to compare.

Edit: Memory is 6400 CL32. several places said 6400 was standard, then I go the AMD and its 6000. We will see, and I can downclock memory I hope. Mine is an ES, so we will see. 6400 would be killer !

small , possibly not relevant, but here it is. During my test of Turin, even though its not supposed to be recognized without new bios, when I removed it to put the 9554 back in, there were very small pieces of something in the socket, and I blew then out with my mouth, but what is the chance it interfered with the chip at least posting ? I should have taken a pic. After blowing them out the 9554 is back in. We will see if it damaged anything, but the socket looked perfect after blowing on it. regardless, its probably best to have the correct motherboard, memory and bios. We will see wed or thursday next week.

Edit: So it pooted into bios, sees the data drive, but does even try to boot from it. Tries to use something else to boot. I will replace the hard drive with an NVME later and install windows. I need lasso anyway, but pretty sure the CPU and socket are good.

For PrimeGrid, there are alternatives to Process Lasso, for Linux and Windows.
Yes, but so far I have had problems with the linux scripts.

Question though, I think you have the same motherboard as me, the supermicro. I can't figure out how to get it to boot from the sata hard disk. I get the boot order to UEFI hard disk, and the option for disks to use legacy and (the other choice) and it sees the drive, but keeps wanting to boot from something else, some network drive,

What am I doing wrong ?

Here is a great one, but not for sale or I would not want to try and make it work. The h13ssl that I have is fine. Needs revision 2.0 and bios 3.0

Thanks. And when you ordered h13ssl-N (or the NT one e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Supermicro-H13SSL-NT-Motherboard-Supported-Warranty/dp/B0C2JVV565) on Amazon, it had revision 2.0? I can't tell from product listings, and I guess BIOS can just be updated to 3 on any rev 2.0. That's the only available, standard ATX board I know of that supports Genoa now but Turin later for future upgrades.
I ordered it from newegg. $669 vs $800 or 858 at amazon. Not sure if it will be 2.0, but I will see wed.

Thanks will monitor thread. Someone on Amazon said "the board itself does not have a TPM 2.0 chip present with the board" so maybe that'll also be necessary.
