How does that help Turkey? Their problem is with the Kurds, whom they've just given a very powerful ally.
I think you're placing too much emphasis on this perceived Russian-Kurdish nexus. The Kurds have no proclivity to side with Russians, they are firmly in US hands. Putin has been getting way too aggressive and it was a matter of time before he was put in his place. Don't think for a second the US didn't approve of this shooting, Turkey is a NATO member and wouldn't risk war without a calculated move made in concert with the US leadership.
