Clarification: although the title of the youtube video says "owning" the video is about getting cash for tuning in someone who is illegally carrying a gun around.

Cory Booker is actually a pretty awesome mayor. He's done a lot of good for Newark. He did specify illegal guns, and I'm all for getting those off the streets. Criminals with illegal guns screw things up for those of us who want to legally own guns.

He only said illegal when they got to the plan specifics, which I believe was said once. It's sort of like reading the fine print of a contract. How many people do that?

NJ allows you to own a long gun (rifle) or pistols with the proper Firearms ID card and Permit to Purchase Handgun. But you can not carry a pistol without a carry permit and that is next to impossible to obtain. Now for guns owned without a permit, which is what most criminals have, that is illegal.

Newark has the budget to pay out $1000 per person who owns a gun illegally? At a minimum, I'd bet on there being at least 10,000 people in the city who illegally own guns.

In retrospect what I said may have been considered incredibly threatening. Let me clarify: In the shitty neighborhoods if you run your mouth you are likely to be assaulted by the person you narc'd on. Its better to stay alive. Thats why people dont report crimes much at all. A measly thousand bucks aint worth it unless the deal also includes protective custody and maybe moving across the country, changing your name. Etc.
