I like the fact that he's pledging not to attack President Bush like the ohter democratic candidates have been. IMHO - he seems the most sane/realistic of the bunch.
I thought about his decision from a game theory perspective, and I have concluded that his timing was brilliant. Firstly, after rounds of debates between the other clowns, no one has emerged as a clear leader except, arguably, Dean. Moreover, he has given the other candidates time to show the American people that they truly are offering no new substance, but instead, they are purely running on an anti-Bush ticket. Now, the genius of his timing is this: Given that Dean is the front-runner right now, and given the fact that Dean spoke so very highly of Clark when he asked him to be his running mate, Clark has, in a sense, taken Dean right out of the picture when it comes time for future debates. If Dean were to criticize the General whatsoever, he merely has to point out that he was a great man when asked to run, but now that he chose to run against Dean, he is suddenly not worthy of the nomination...his war planning skills are showing through. In short, I think he is playing his cards quite nicely, politically speaking.
