I picked one of these up at compusa. box said nothing about vivo. got lucky I guess. ATI made.

unlocked it and ran 520/560 stable for 2 weeks. wouldn't overclock to high though. volt modded the ram, core, ect. and ran 575/610 for another week! can do benches and torture tests for 24 hours straight no lockups.

I got a cherry picked card, only need a tiny boost in voltage to reach it's potental.

the volt mod wasn't too hard but the bios flash was easy as pie!

thanks for the reply. anyone else have any luck unlocking the 4 extra pipelines on the 2ns version of the card? i'm very tempted to try it but don't want to unless someone else has had some luck with the same version.

There is a bios floating around out there that will unlock the 16 pipes but keep the speeds at pro settings. This would be especially usefull to those who have the slower mem or their cards cannot handle xt speeds.

The drivers see it as a pro vivo with 16 pipes. It would be a little bit quicker than a regular pro... and you could allways use ati tool to overclock it to what your card can handle in 3d games.

If I find the website again I will post it.

I tried it and did unlock pipes to 16 but only briefly, had lots of problems, stability issues and then it reverted back to 12 pipes and major glitches in performance, I think I broke it before I sent it back and got a 1.6 ns model....

Hey everyone , this is my first time here on these forums .

I have an original ATI x800 pro . After looking at it , i noticed that it does have vivo connection as well as the 1.6 memory . with these two features in mind does that mean I was also luck enough to get one from ATI.?/
I have really been debating on bumping this baby up to the 16 pieline .
I already did some bench testing all the way up to 520 , and i didnt see any glitches .

couple other questions ,
1. are all of you that have done this mod satisfied with the performance afterwards ?? and not experiencing alot of problems?
2. How exactly are you guys gettin the temperature of the gpu ,so i can check that out .
3. Is there a major risk of smokin my card ?

I would like to open it up to a 16 pipe card regaurdless . But I havent seen to many people with factory ati cards posting much about this .

And last but not least . The stock performance of the x800 , totally blows me away compared to the 9600 pro i used to have . I also am quite pleased after droppin 4 bucks . Is it really worth it .

Please gimme some feedback , i cant decide . 4 bucks is alotta bucks for a friggin vid card lol.

OMG this was a complete piece of cake . I now have all 16 pipes and a fully functional X800 XT PE .
I ran a bench and it was 12141 . I am not seeing any artifacts or anything . although , i am rather curios what temp its running at .

what should the stack temp be , and what about after the mod?

Okay, I just got my x800 pro in. It's Serial number is 630417xxxxxx and the tag on the side says VIVO. It's ATI built and the memory modules say Samsung. Not sure if there is anything but 1.6ns Samsung. Is there? I haven't tried flashing just yet because I want to be certain. The guy I bought the card off said it wasn't VIVO and the card and box both say VIVO. He said he never tried to flash because he didn't think it had the Rage Theatre chip.... I still am not sure what he meant by that.

Anyone see any reason why I should not try the flash with my card?

I use ATI Tool, readings vary from 31c to 39c, but that is with water cooling.

I'm here becuase I was convinced to get a 6800 gt but this thread turned me again in an ati guy ( i'vebben ati from the red pcb 9500@9700 pro )

From what i read , what i need to get is an x800 pro vivo with samsung 1.6ns memory , then I will be successfull modding it into a x800 xt pe ( adding a cool cooling solution as the NV artic silencer )

Let me know guys where can i get the card , nad what is the best label ( sapphire?) i should get as a x800 pro vivo to turn it into a x800 xt pe .

The place to get vid card is Newegg. For the best label well I would go with Build by ATI or Sapphire. I heard that Powercolor as the the best VIVO with the 1.6ns samsung ram.

Hey All! Brand new to this forum! I recently got a Sapphire Radeon x800 pro vivo from my local store. It unfortunately has 2.0 memory instead of the 1.6. I still tried to flash and see what would happen! I got some very strange results!!!


First, I can't get the pipe to work no matter what I tried! I was at another site (http://www.techpowerup.com/art...rclocking/vidcard/100) that informs you how to upgrade 2.0 memory cards who arn't laser cut! Still mine would not open the other 4 pipes!

So I had given up my hopes. However I ran the ati xtpe flash anyways to see what would occur. The clock speed of my card did change to 520/560. However the pipes were only at 12. I was expecting things to crash or get artifacts in my favourite games! None that I can see after an hour of fooling around. My computer runs in windows at 48 degrees! It peaks out at 57 degrees.


What I am wondering is how can my card be running at these clock speeds without the 16 pipes? I have now returned the card to original bios and clock settings, but am curious to see if I can try those clock speeds again.

Anyone else have any ideas how I can upgrade to 16 pipes? I read something about soldering? I have lots of experience soldering so if there is a link someplace, I would love to see what needs to be done.

Other than that what do you all think I should do? I could probably return this card and get an ati retail vivo x800 pro instead. However if this card can be overclocked so high, then how much more would 4 pipes give me if possibly I can't even run at high clock speeds...


Oh and I have no cooling devices other than the stock sapphire fan nor did I play with voltages.

I had to 'hard mod" it using condutive past but ATITool shows only 12 active pipe lines still.
I flashed the BIOS using the X800XT.bin and could not load the Catalyst drivers to save my life. I re-flashed with my backup old BIOS and it's working great. It still say's I have an 800 Pro and not an XT or PE.

Did flash with the wrong BIOS? How do I know I have the right one? I used http://paddy007uk.freeservers.com/VGAbios/X800XT.bin

My Device ID = 4A49
Chip Type = R420

All help would be greatly appreciated...

Is your card a VIVO, and does it have the 1.6ns Samsung GRam? Here's a good link to help you out.
