The XT is quite hard to find.

ahhh...true. I confused it with the PE, which costs even more. Still, at $400 I don't think I'd risk it. I wouldn't even try it on the $300 6800 16 pipe soft mod. If $400 was that disposable to me, I would have gotten the PE or Ultra in the first place.

What's the risk? If it doesn't work, you can flash it back (even with a blank screen, the flash is easy).

There is no risk.

Case in point.

Marc

That was a software issue. He even said he reformatted and reinstalled, and it showed up as a 9800Pro again.

I returned my BBA X800 Pro to Frys and ordered a PowerColor X800 Pro VIVO from FuturepowerPC.com. It is in transit from NY due to arrive on Friday 09/03. I read that these cards have a VERY high success rate, I'm looking forward to it

Just flashed my PowerColor X800Pro VIVO/1.6ns Samsung DDR to the XT PE. The last flash to the ATi BIOS would not take as it is written. I needed to transpose the F and P to get it to work. It should read like this:

flashrom -f -p 0 x800xt.bin

After that it flashed fine. My stock speeds werer 473/446/12 pipes. After 520/560/16 pipes. I could see the bridge on mine was not cut when I removed the stock heatsink. The card did not like to run at XT speed with the stock cooling. It would crash after a few minutes of gaming. After adding some OCZ ramsinks to the DDR and the Swiftech waterblock and 80w pelt, it runs fine at those speeds. ATI tool detects no artifacts up to 530core/580 memory. I am going to check the Vcore with my Fluke tomorrow. Does anyone have a link to the pencil trick that jumps the Vcore to 1.4v?? Also, do you check the Vcore in the same place as a 9800 pro? I soldered a pot on my 9800 to get the Vcore up.

Not much of a core OC but the DDR OC's nicely. One happy camper here. Just played BF1942 DC for 3hrs. straight at 1600x1200/85Hz 4xAA/8xAF highest quality settings, fps was pegged at 99/100. This is an awesome way to save some $$$. Can't wait for HL2 and Counterstrike2 to release. Anyone know what speed the 1.6ns DDR is rated up to??

Thanks for your efforts Mega

I got mine to run at XT speeds but far cry would show flashing yellow artifact in certain environment. The weird thing was, doom 3 doesn't seem to show any artifacts. Yellow, flashing artifact is a sign that you have a bad pipe in the 4 that you just unlocked. I returned my x800pro and stuck with my trusty 6800gt.

Just want to let people know about the risks.

You can find more about the flashing color artifacts here:

Just a quick update on mine. I checked the Vcore on the GPU with my Fluke, it reports 1.383vdc. I am guessing a lot of these VIVO cards are in fact XT's that have been tuned down. I am not going to bother Vmodding this card yet as it does not seem necessary. The Vmod I did on my 9800 Pro had very little impact on the max OC. I think cooling is the key on the ATi rather than Vcore. I would actually recommend against doing the Vmod if you are trying to run with the stock cooler as this GPU gets plenty hot at the stock V's. I'm not sure why ATi still does not include some sort of ramsink, the DDR modules get quite warm. Oh well. I am very happy with the way mine is running.

I purchased a sapphire x800 pro vivo and sucessfully unlocked the 4 pipes to 16, however when I was loading the latest ati drivers it would rebot and bluescreen, after going in safemode, unistalling drivers I was able to boot into windows and see the 16 pipes still unlocked via ati tool. I then downloaded JUST the driver and not control panel from ati, just the 8mb driver. After reloading driver and rebooted I now only see the 12 pipes I have tried following same unlocking process several times with no luck....any idea's?

Does your card have the yellow CD In connector link and also the 1.6ns ram link.

I dicovered I had the 2.0 samsung instead of the 1.6 samsung memory, its a sapphire X800 pro (VIVO) I successfully opened the pipes to 16 but had some driver issues and after re-installing several times I went to benchmark the 4 extra pipes and realized via ati tool that it was bumped back down to 12.....any idea's?

there's your problem it won't work, the bios you installed work only with X800 Pro with 1.6 samsungs. If you installed it it will give you problems for sure. The only solution is to backup you old bios and return the card or exchaned it for another one, possibly a VIVO version with a 1.6ns samsung.

ooooops forget to tell you about the bad flash.
I tryed a couple of bios to sort out the problem in case of wrong bios..

I flash the card and then THE SCREEN GOES BLACK (my heart was pumping like a race hourse and my eyes go blury)

But dont worry all you have to do is put in the org bios floppy wait for the pc to boot up(screen still black)
and type FLASHROM -P -F BACKUP.BIN. wait a min. Take out floppy and reboot

AND TJOBING the card is up running again

So the story of this telling TAKE BACKUP TAKE BACKUP

Hello, paid $399 US for a Powercolor X800Pro VIVO card, flashed to the X800XT PE bios and runs great with all 16 pipelines. Can confirm there is no difference between this card and the true PE's. Even has the the 1.6ns memory. Current high stable clock is 580Mhz / 1200Mhz, Stock XT PE is 520Mhz / 1150Mhz.
