Yep, now with the impending reboot of Magnum PI, it's a sad thing when "Hollywood" doesn't have enough imagination to come up with "new" shows, but rather just keeps re-inventing old shows. (much like the movie industry)
You win the award for unnecessary quotation marks.

Thanks!

I'll treasure it always.

However, since not all shows are made by "Hollywood studios," those quotation marks are necessary to imply the entertainment industry in general, not just Hollywood itself, and since so many "new" shows aren't actually new at all, just rehashed old shows...those quotation marks are also necessary.

This is why I rarely watch network TV. At least you can find something different on channels like Showtime, HBO, AMC, etc. I don't do Netflix or anything, so that's a whole different animal too. It's no surprise the best shows are online only or on pay networks. They take the chances (and can afford to) and don't give up on them right away (usually).

I think Hollywood isn't willing to spend the time or the money necessary to get a show going anymore. Last season Limitless was an innovative new show the could have continued but they didn't. Terra Nova was another cancelled after one season due to cost.

They expect the ratings to be like how they were in the past. When there was only, what, 5 choices. That will never happen again, especially with online only content. They are still using an archaic system and it will be the downfall of network TV (if it isn't already ruined). Live sports is all they have left at this point.

Person of Interest got cancelled.... 5 seasons on the books, 7+ million viewers, and one of the highest quality productions on network TV. Now the show runners are making Westworld.

Likely cancelled because CBS didn't have syndication rights and WB wouldn't cut them a piece of the pie.

Network tv is dying. I'm watching season 18 of south pork and they have an episode on the death of the living room or something like that. And it's true. It's not just youtube either. Content is completely portable now. Even if you stop to watch on a big screen, odds are that you are streaming from a service like amazon, netflix or whatever.

Even the NFL is losing viewers. I thing I saw a figure of 10% losses. Don't know if that's this season or projected but it's happening.

People are spending more time working and therefore more time jerking off with social media and other distractions. There are more demands on free time with social media. God forbid you don't keep up with your friends news feeds, emails, texts, etc. So not only is there less time to consume entertainment there are almost exponentially more options. And of course all of those social media outlets are constantly serving you up video and music.

Archer is also ending after season 10.

Wow, 8 episodes? I wouldn't call that a season at all.

I'd call it better than nothing. It's slipped a little from where it was at its best, but Archer is still better than most sitcoms on TV. If 8 episode seasons are what it takes to keep the show on the air then I'll be happy to get them.

Actually I think the problem is that they don't really care what you watch as long as you watch the commercials as well. The first three episodes of a new show almost always has higher ratings than any given episode of anything other than a wildly popular running show, so why keep average shows running if you can just keep showing 3 episodes of new shows. Eventually that will burn out as people get tired of watching new shows that never go anywhere, but then they will change their tactics for awhile.

Bleh, AHS has been terrible for quite a while now. Oh well, just another show I won't watch.

That's my point. It's all about ad revenue for the commercials. Higher rated shows, they make more money from ads. They don't care about the quality, as long as it brings people to view it. The problem is, they expect ratings how they used to be and charge ad rates based on that (it seems to me). Rather than lower the cost of ads, they just keep cancelling shows and bringing in new ones, wait for the new one to lose enough viewers, then cancel those, which is what you said. Other networks/mediums don't have that restriction, so can stick with a show longer because they don't over-inflate their ad prices, just because they are "network tv".

That's why live sports is all they have left. The audience is captive and most will watch live (including the ads). I haven't watched a network show live in...hell I don't know how long. Simply because I can't stand the ads, so DVR it to fast forward through them. When I do watch live sports, I almost always switch the channel during ads to another live event for a couple minutes.

I am puzzled on why Scorpion hasn't been canned yet, since the scenarios are so far fetched that it isn't funny.
The on again and off again and on again and off again rinse & repeat cycle of romance has been beaten to death already.

You no like Tricia Helfer?

I still like it. Hope it's a 13 episode season though.

Haven't looked into it yet, but wouldn't be surprised if it's a CBS production with them owning all rights, and seeing how it's mostly a no-body cast they are probably also relatively cheap. Expect it to be gone once it hit's that 5 year syndication point where contracts would start to kick in increases.

Frig, Archer is going down ?

Oh well, was one of my favorite things to get a kick out of. I'll take whatever I can get myself.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet on this.

Supposedly. Adam Reed said season 10 will be the end. He was going to do S8 and hang it up, but changed his mind and found a way to do three shortened seasons instead of one normal season. That's 24 episodes instead of 10-13 from a single season, so it's a net win.

And the longer it stays on the better the chance of him changing his mind or finding another showrunner that he trusts to take it over.

Just finished watching No Tomorrow, and there is no chance at renewal, this was supposed to be a comedy, but it wasn't funny.
A asteroid is going to crash into the earth, all because of that darn global warming in 8 months & 12 days, so says this guy...and she buys it?

I usually don't give up on shows before 3 episodes, but, I am finding it very difficult to watch another episode of this show.

According to USAToday, fall's new series hits are:
  1. Bull (CBS) 18.4 (millions of viewers)
  2. Designated Survivor (ABC) 14.4
  3. This is Us (NBC) 13.1
  4. Kevin Can Wait (CBS) 12.9
  5. MacGyver (CBS) 11.3
The Exorcist, Son of Zorn, Pitch, Notorious not doing well.

Damn..... I expected Bull to make it being right after NCIS and starring a former NCIS star of 12-ish years but that is incredible. It'll probably fall over the next few months but not bad.

It's a watchable procedural that's more original than your typical buddy cop or cop show. Not incredible but watchable.
