Compgeeks has this TV card for only $40 - seems like a good deal, but I am wondering whether it has a monaural or stereo tuner.

why would you need an amplifier on a TV card though - I don't think it has anything to do with the tuner.

Won't work on my brand new Dell 600SC, It's a five volt card.

Dang I learn a lot here.

Anyone know of a 3.3V capture card that works with Linux?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

What exactly does this mean - will it work with my motherboard? see sig.

Edit - I was just looking at PCI specifications - my board is 2.2 compliant, it is supposed to support 5v cards - your board must be PCI v2.3, which doesn't support that. Can anyone verify?

Got a Dell 600SC last week. Does not support 5V cards.

Only reason I was interested in this card, for a server was to possibly convert my 8mm cam corder into a web cam

Note that most consumer PCs will work with this card....

Um, I don't think it's needs a PCI slot with 5 volts. Plus I don't see where it ever says 5 volts, the amplifiers are 5 watts...but that's about it.

You can see from the pictures of the item that it requires a PCI slot that uses 5V signalling. You can tell this because the card edge only has one key slot. If it had two (one more closer to the front), this means that it can fit into both newer slots that use 3V signalling as well as older slots that use 5V signalling. More and more systems are moving to 3V only slots because they run at higher bus speeds. This card will physically not fit into new PCI slots that are PCI-66 or PCI-X

Does any one know of a TV card that works in 3V slots?

It's very tempting for the price, but it does not list WinXP as supported OS. Anyone?

KWORLD TV Capture Card with FM enable Windows 98/SE/ME/2000/XP users to receive and display television, data such as internet information, and enhanced television programs that combine television with data related to the programs. Users of Windows 98 will also have access to a program guide that allows them to view a schedule of television shows, then instantly tune into a show for viewing on the PC.

taken directly from the kworld site.

XP is supported.

Don't know if anyone thought of this but I haven't seen anyone mention capture resolution,
yeh it says 30fps but at what res? better quality cards will do 800 x 600 which is what you would want
IMHO. says card has conextant 878a chip in there not sure of its specs.

Correct me if I am wrong.
Most Cable TV has close to True 300 line of resolution. and most Satallite TV may go up to 500 Line of resolution.
NTSC DVD has 720X480 resolution.

Obviously, there are some hardware capture card able to do TRUE 800X600 capture. But I doubt it will be under $300!!!!!!! And if you want to capture 800X600 TV show for half hour, wish you has a HUGE HD!!!

As for Conexant 878 chipset...if you look carefully, it is pretty much standard chipset for most of $100 TV card.

For most TV capture I would only recommend NTSC VCD format which is 352X240, so 1GB HD may record 100 min of the show. Instead Mpeg2 @ 720X480 that your 1GB HD only worth around 6 min!!!!!!!
