Im going to college next year, and wanted to know what to do for TV stuff? Would you reccomend bringing and actual TV, or just getting a TV tuner card for my PC? the room comes with a free cable jack, and Im not sure which is better. Im prolly gonna have a 19"-20" LCD monitor btw

Spend the least amount you can for now IMO, there will be plenty of other costs

I'd get a TV Tuner card. Keep in mind if your computer is ever down, so is your TV in this case

Don't watch TV, that's my recommendation. The computer is more than enough to kill your grades

A real TV was definetly worth it at college in my opinion. I spent about 200 bucks on a 27" toshiba -- it got used all the time for video games and movies-- things that really suck through a TV tuner card on a computer.

Have both...pimp out your dorm room as much as possible. Or save the money for your apartment, which is more of what I did...I had a 27" in my 8*12ft dorm room, which was fine.

My roommate has a TV, and I have a TV tuner card, so I just split the one cable connection for each. I also have a 20" LCD... haven't hooked up any game systems to my TV tuner (could to the monitor directly anyway) so I can't comment on the quality of that.

you can get a pretty cheap tv... it'll be nice to have when people come over to your room to hang out, rather than everyone crowding around your computer desk.

I find a real TV is invaluable, even if only used as a monitor for games.

I own a 21" Hitachi nicam stereo one, fairly basic, but has 2 scart sockets and the rca jacks at the front, very handy to have lots of connections.

I really liked having my own real tv while in the dorms at college (i am assuming that's where you'll be)

Edit: it's easier to fiddle on the computer and watch tv. also, do you have a gaming console? if so you should def. get a tv

You might want to wait and find out if your roomate already has one.

Also depends on how much you want to stay in your room, or if you want to socialize around community tv's.

Also, are you comfortable watching a movie on your LCD or would you rather it be a television (for say a date)..

I'd recommend spending all that time you'd be watching TV or on the computer and spending it in the library. Seriously. The study habits you develop in your first few years will most likely be the ones you carry with you for your college career. I'm relearning my own study habits right now and it's f'ing hard as heck.

thats why you need to complement the system with a dual-screen setup

Seriously though, I would get the largest TV you can and place it in the common area. If you have plenty video games, your popularity will skyrocket among teh nerds

I think I got one that's a little too big for my room... unless your dorm room is huge, 27 is probably where you want to shoot for. It's nice to have a tv if you're planning on hooking anything else up to it in the future too (video games etc.)

So

I'm really happy with just a TV tuner. I spent freshman year without TV, but the Tuner is perfect. I split off the cable from our living room and I'm good to go

Your there to get an education. Not to sit around and play Halo 2 and watch Scooby Do.

Don't have a TV. There are a lot more interesting things in college than T.V. and if you really want to watch a show it's a pretty good reason to socialize.
