I've been reading various reviews of the ATi AIW 8500 card (both me and my dad are interested in TV in) as it seems like the best one around currently (I guess until the R300 AIW comes...?) and has hundreds of features...

Anywhoo, I have a question regarding getting a TV signal in to the PC. Say the computer is in a room where there is no reception (thus why there isn't a TV in there in the first place)...if there's no reception for a TV, does that mean no reception for a TV card (this is supposing it uses an aerial, as our cable TV goes to the TV in the lounge) or can you just take a long wire from an area where there IS reception to the card?

Are there any sites that have a focus on how to set up the TV in?

Gracias,

Its the fastest, but the 8500dv has a larger feature set (mostly firewire support for DV) the AIW 7500 and AIW 8500 have the same feature set regarding the VIVO features, just different generations of the GPU.

Right, think of it as a VCR/TV combo. You simply hook the coax from your cable TV line, Sat dish or from your ariel into the tuner of the AIW card, and hook the AIW to the line-in of your sound card (internally or externally) and you're set.

The AIW tuner supports analog channels below channel 125, and you can use the tuner of your cable box or Sat dish for your other channels using the S-video or Composite video connecters.

I've set up several AIW cards, ask away if you have any questions.

I have a question about the quality of the AIW TV-Out. This is what i am planning to do, I am going to buy the AIW 7500 and then use it an a TIVO basically and have it set to record all the tv shows i want to watch. Then, i can just play them on my TV whenever i have spare time. But then i have read alot about the poor output quality of these cards. So, im just wondering how bad the quality is? Is the quality so bad that its not worth using my AIW as a TIVO?
My TV at home is a Philips MagnoVox <-- if that makes a difference. This is a link to my rig. (itz da Top one.. p3 600)

Quality is very good actually. For instance, when viewing my Sanyo 32" TV(newer cheap model) with tv-out via s-video using theater mode with overscan enabled, there is a "slight" blurring in direct comparison to the TV's own tuner, and the folks in my house (7) are about split as to the "best" quality. When you factor in that you can pause the radeon, there is no question as to which is best. DVD output is much better and more functional than our PS2, and "slightly" below a standard standalone DVD player using the same s-video input, when you factor in you can play games at 1024X768 with great framerates, no question the Radeon wins by a large margin again.
my rig. (itz da Top one.. p3 600)Tell me what you think
I think that rig is pushing the low-end for a TIVO. PC video is very demanding and TIVO functionality even more so. Its all what you can tolerate, and I've used an ATI AIW or VIVO variant using AMD CPU's from a non overclocked Duron 650 Via PC133 rig up to my current rig. All of them were fully functional, but my present configuration is definately more tolerable.
