tv out cables

I hope that someone knows a little about this stuff. I saw on an older post a site s-video.com. That place looks good for what I need but i live in South Africa and dont want to have to pay freight for just a s-video cable.

Is the a specific kind of cable that i would need to use to get a new tv out cable made up by an electronics place here? I bought a s-video to Rca cable but it didnt work at all (not even black and white) so I figure that this cable must have been utter rubbish! Is there any kind of details I can relay to this electronics place which could result in me getting a new cable made up that will work?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Before you go to all this trouble, are you sure you're enabling tv-out correctly?

What kind of card do you have / what kind of cable did you get?
(number of pins?)

Also... I'm wondering if you're outputting the correct format for South Africa? There are different settings for different parts of the world for tv formats. I don't know what South Africa uses so I may be way off on it being something different. Have you tried different formats from your card? (PAL, etc.)

ye the cable i got with the card works cool but i need a longer cable so that it can reach my tv that is mounted to a wall. I also dont have an s-video socket on that tv hence the need to get s-video to RCA.

If the cable you have works, why don't you just get an extension for it?

(like a female RCA to male RCA, or a female-female adapter and add in a length of regular RCA cable?)
