I have a VIZIO 70" TV that performs very slow, it loads the apps slowly and sometimes it crashes or just plain freezes and does not respond and have to unplugg to force it to shut off. I dont know if the main board is starting to fail but its very annoying and I love the quality of the TV and dont want to get rid of it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Model: E700i-B3
Brand: VIZIO
its 4 years old

Am I to assume it worked normally new and recently started getting slow?

I would wonder if you have capacitor failure and it's starting to get instable. This is fairly common after a few years, especially on less than top tier sets. Assuming the power board is separate from the logic board, they'll most likely be caps on the power board and have visible doming/leaking tops.

If you have a basic background in electronics and a soldering iron you can DIY replace the caps with far better ones than came in it from the factory, for under $10 shipped from electronics supply houses like Digikey. In particular you'd go for very low ESR type capacitors for example at Digkey the Panasonic FS series in the same size (lead spacing), at least the same voltage and capacitance (though larger values for these parameters won't hurt if the model # still fits in the available space - no taller nor larger diameter than the originals to avoid clearance issues).

Then again if the sluggishness corresponds to amount of time being turned on (heating up) could be you have a bad solder joint, or transistor (discrete or in some IC) starting to fail.

Considering the warranty is over (yes?) I'd pop it open and see if there is any visual clue, right after trying a factory reset that PuppettMaster001 mentioned if that's an option.

i wouldn't buy a roku, get a nvidia shield instead. maybe there is a better option? for 65 i purchased a few 3gb ddr4 32gb internal memory s912 oct-core android box that has performed nicely for my streaming /android tv needs. very fast and responsive unlike the firetv it replaced which was a nightmare. Factory reset sounds like first thing i would try while i waited for the nvidia shield (maybe they are 100$ now? ) or 150 with gaming control/remote.

If the TV is freezing up, and a factory reset doesn't help, it is unlikely that an alternate smart device plugged into it is going to resolve this... maybe for a short while if it just changes the power density on the logic board but whatever has happened to the TV, could still cause crashing or even get worse.

I suppose there is some off chance the TV was moved, and that cracked a solder joint on the logic board, that coincidentally only affected the smart features, but it seems the least likely possibility.

well the OP will never read this thread.. and he never said if he did a factory reset or not .. last login dec 19. first login dec 19.
