If it's bad caps, they'll be easy to identify and easy to replace. When my TV went out in January, I immediately tore it open to see what was going on inside... and I was
hoping for bad caps!
In my TV, there are three main boards. One controls/converts power. One is the main board with tuner, inputs, smart TV functions, etc. One controls the LCD.
It was easy enough to diagnose the power board; does it output as specified? In my case, it was easy to figure out because voltages are labeled on the PCB.
I was able to isolate the problem to the main board because the power was fine and the main wasn't delivering power/signal to the LCD controller board. From there, it was a matter of figuring out the problem and fixing it.
Electronics stop working for a reason. Find that reason. Open it up. At best, you'll figure it out. At worst, you're throwing it away anyway.
Also, in many cases, repairs can be made by shipping the board rather than the whole TV. But that requires the user to know how to open up the TV and isolate the problem to a single board.
