Beyond TV (http://www.snapstream.com/products/beyondtv/) will do that. Works pretty well, from my limited experience with the program.

Don't know if it'll work with your tuner or not, but they have a free trial that you can install to see if you like the program before buying it.

Beyond TV and Sagetv both found my capture card but beyond tv wanted a IR blaster and Sage tv performance was too slow so video laged

Beyond TV doesn't need an IR Blaster. It will work with no remote, or with their Firefly Remote (which, imo, is the best one out there). GB-PVR is one of those deals where if it works for you on your hardware its very good. If it doesn't it can be a real PITA. BTV and Sage are much more polished. With BTV you get a free Snapstream.net account with access to your local channel line-up, and the software functions exactly like any other DVR. Been using it for over a year and have been very satisfied.

GB-PVR is good and free but I don't think it will work with that hardware. For GB-PVR I think it must have a hardware MPEG-2 encoder.

Also it looks like what you got is a video capture device and not a TV tuner so I am not sure how that will works with the other programs.

Select "Null Tuner" where its asking you about the ir blaster and Beyond TV will continue on.

This may be a totally ridiculous question, but does GB-PVR work in Canada? I did not see anything mentioned anywhere, but I was thinking of getting a tuner card and thought this free software would work well, but of course it would have to work in Canada.

Please excuse my complete and utter lack of knowledge with respect to tv tuners/pvr software as I am not even sure how this stuff works at all.

Yes, it will work anywhere so long as you can get the TV listing. I believe for the US and Cananda the easiest way is use the Zap2It plugin in GB-PVR. Got to www.gbpvr.com and click on Wiki and there is lots of information there.
