If I get one of these does that mean I wont need a VCR to send my cable signal into my LCD monitor... or do you recommend to use a VCR anyway. Any better cards to recommend? I'm not sure of the difference between software/hardware on these. I have a P4 2.8 Ghz with 1 GB RAM.

Can anyone with this card explain how the audio setup works? I have a hauppage winTV theatre card that uses the same chip (bt878A), but this card lacks the audio pass-through connectors of my card. I would like to maybe have dual tuners in my PVR box, woul dit be possible to do that with this card or even two of them?

The audio comes from the port on the video card and goes out to the cdin or auxin on your sound card/onboard. Its like installing the audio cable for optical drives.

Thanks OP. In for one. Not so much interested in the tuner capability more for converting VHS to DVD/VCD, hope this does this properly even though its a s/w decoder - I have a P4-1.8Ghz, 1.3GB memory.

This card will record fine and playback fine if you record and encode at high-quality settings and have a decent system (1.5Ghz or better and 512MB RAM or better).

As it uses the bt878A chipset it should work with the bttv drivers but I would check first.

It'd be good to get one of these with a built-in HDTV driver. I've seen a few out there already, but they were at least $30+ more than this deal, but worth it in my opinion.

Bah. looked at this, but decided I want to record at least two channels at once so I sprung for a dvr-500. Might even go to two dvr-500's when I upgrade to Dual core dothan next year. (Assuming I dont have hdtv by then).

I am currently doing exactly what you are suggesting and I have no problems at all. I even get good reception. 1024X768 doesn't look as good as your regular TV though............
Um yeah, normal (pre-HD) Cable/Over-The-Air TV, etc only run @ 525(640)x480... so doesnt matter how huge you have the resolution set at, theres only a set amount of data coming thru your cable line

It is worth it for just the remote.

Seriously if you want a pvr you better get good pvr software. I really like snapstream beyond tv. It is polished and very easy to use. Sage tv is also intriguing, though it is hardware encoder only so this card wont work with Sage. Beyondtv is about to release BTV4.0 which will will incorporate beyond media with beyond tv into one. I am looking forward to this, though they are going to charge for the upgrade .

Anyone know if this card will work with the Media Portal freeware PVR software?

Does this card work good for just watching TV? I'm not really interested in PVR functionality so much. I have a 22" (viewable) CRT and have been wanting to get a tv tuner (cheap) to watch TV on it

i got one when this was 1st posted. image quality is good. the software it comes with, WinFast PVR, is ok. it's got a "Channel Surf" feature that shows all of your channels in a grid with screencaps of every channel and a live feed from the current channel. kinda neat. you can use the remote with other programs (MediaPortal, etc) by going thru Girder, not easily tho. worth the 15bux for me tho, as this box is not a HTPC. it is mono audio also.
software encoding...
and has svideo and maybe composite IN jacks for video encoding from camcorder/vcr/whatever.

I like it...I just hope I get my rebate as it ask you to deposit the check within 10? or 15 days of issue meaning...u might only have just a few days to deposit once you receive it depending on slow snail mail and the time they issue and send it out.
