I have a need for a 32" monitor for work.
It would be hooked up to the VGA port of a laptop (HDMI next round of computers) It would be partially used for Career fairs so I was thinking instead of using a laptop, I'd use a flash drive in the USB port to show slideshow images.
Any thing I should consider when picking a TV for a monitor?

Make sure you have access to overscan settings in the PC if you are connecting by HDMI.

Overscan, I believe is not an issue if connecting by VGA input.

What is the intended viewing distance and will you be also using the TV to view things you control or would you use the laptop's screen in a mirrored mode to control things? If you are viewing the TV to control the laptop at a distance, then scaling of the UI for a certain distance may be in play (along with a wireless pointer method or keyboard).

Also, if you are using Windows for slide showing and running the HDTV as an extended display, the Windows Photo Viewer of Windows 7 (and the desktop Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 8) will play the slide show of photos on both monitors (laptop and extended display, with one of the monitors being black). However, if using the Photo app of Windows 8, only one of the extended displays would have the slide show leaving the other screen for manipulation pending on where you invoke and have the Photo app activated for slide showing.

<--- A person that has used a HDTV as a monitor since 1080p HDTVs via HDMI.

The connection will be VGA for now. Possibly DisplayPort or HDMI in the future.
Viewing distance is about 6'.
Running Windows 7.
I guess I need a VGA to HDMI adapter box.

Most TV's have overscan correction via hdmi now too. Called 1:1 pixel mapping. Mine does.
