am i using the program wrong?
seems like the program merged all my files (mp3, vid, photos) into a single file.
the worse thing is that videos look really crappy.

isnt there a way for streaming that doesnt re-encode my files? would be nice if the PS3 just see my shares on the desktop and play it directly!
am i missing something?

Why don't you just stream straight to the PS3? You should only need Tversity for transcoding. I'm not exactly sure how the PS3 media center works, but from what I've heard it shouldn't require tversity.

You can stream some things with WMP 11 (that's what I use)... as long as it doesn't require transcoding.

I had to beat on it to get it working right but now it's golden.

1) First off, uninstall all codecs from your system. Divx, xvid, etc.

2) Install the Combined Community Codec Pack for ffdshow and the codecs you need for transcoding.

3) Reboot.

4) Under general settings, make sure the playback device is set to "Automatic".

5) Click the "Delete all files" button in the temporary files settings.

6) Under transcoder settings:

a. Set transcoding to "only when needed".

b. Set the video resolution to your screens resolution. I have a 1080p set so I put it to 1920x1080 for both images and video.

c. Set the optimization setting to "Quality".

d. Choose wired for connection speed, even if you're on wireless and set the connection quality to "Excellent". If playback stutters go back to wireless.

e. Set compression to "Minimum".

f. Make sure the decoding speed option is checked.

7) (Optional)

If you want extra quality edit the file in "C:\Program Files\TVersity\Media Server". Replace the section:

<transcodeTarget audio="audio/x-wav" video="video/mpeg16" photo="image/jpeg"
onlineAudio="audio/mpeg" onlineVideo="video/mpeg16" onlinePhoto="image/jpeg"
adjustReadStartPos="false" audioFailFutureSeek="false" videoFailFutureSeek="true" />

With:

<transcodeTarget audio="audio/x-wav" video="video/mpeg2" photo="image/jpeg"
onlineAudio="audio/mpeg" onlineVideo="video/mpeg2" onlinePhoto="image/jpeg"
adjustReadStartPos="false" audioFailFutureSeek="false" videoFailFutureSeek="true" />

This is assuming you have a pretty fast machine (C2D @ 2.5Ghz+).

I'll post more as I learn more.

Chris,

after all these settings do you still get time to time 'format not supported' message?

I have played with TVersity on my Xbox 360 for couple of weeks and found it more trouble then it's worth. I have pretty new PC (built it last fall) with Dualcore Intel, 4GB of Ram and Nvidia 7950GTX card. Yet, I still suffer stuttering from time to time when transoding (and that happens all the time, since most video on my PC is in XVID or Matroska formats); no AC3 support and overall poor video quality. So, as much as I wanted to have my Xbox as the only Media Center in the living room, this is not the solution.

I had no problem using TVersity with my 360 when I had XP. Ever since I upgraded to Vista I've been having issues with it. Since Divx isn't supported by Vista, I had to use the ffdshow codecs. In addition, even though my PC is running, I still need to restart the Tversity service whenever I want to watch something on my 360. Hopefully they release an upgrade soon.

Netscorer. There's definitely a bug in Tversity that causes those format errors. I found that if you run the server from the command line suddenly everything works (at least for me). Shutdown the server from the UI app (Settings->General->Stop Sharing) and turn the "Automatically start sharing..." check box off. Go to the command prompt and in "C:\Program Files\TVersity\Media Server" run "MediaServer.exe -debug".

You can also change the file "MediaServer.log4cxx.properties" to the following to spit out debug information to the command line. Change the word DEBUG to FATAL when you're done investigating though, as it will use less resources.

log4j.rootLogger=DEBUG, R, A

log4j.appender.R=org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender
log4j.appender.R.File=TVersityMediaServer.log
log4j.appender.R.MaxFileSize=1000KB
log4j.appender.R.MaxBackupIndex=2
log4j.appender.R.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
log4j.appender.R.layout.ConversionPattern=%d %5p [%t] (%c@%F:%L) - %m%n

log4j.appender.A=org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender
log4j.appender.A.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
log4j.appender.A.layout.ConversionPattern=%-4r [%t] %-5p %c %x - %m%n

Like I said in the post above cleaning out your codecs and installing the Combined Community Codec pack fixes a lot of problems.

I think TVersity is the best option out now though it's far from perfect. I've tried Nero, Twonky, and WMP 11 and TVersity has the most potential but it's so damn buggy at the moment it's turning a lot of people off.

I was actually considering writing one myself but I'll wait to see if TVersity shapes up any before wasting my time.
