TWC rasing rates again. 3rd time in 16 months, up 46% for me. Fixed $14.99/mo now.

I was on Earthlink which provides their service through Time Warner, so I paid my bill to time warner. Got a notice from Time Warner that my internet fee was going from $51.90 (not a promo rate) to $67.99 and they were putting a $5.99 rental fee on. $22.08 increase!! Ridiculous.

I had to switch back to just Time Warner and get a promo rate to get the price back down. That won't last long.

I'm cutting the cord this weekend. Verizon fios raising their rates again was my last straw. Started at like 100$ a few years ago and when I cancelled it is now ~220$. Going to cox 25/5 for 50$. Feels good man!

Their cheapest internet option where I live went from $29.99/month in Oct 2012 to $43.98/month in March 2014. A 46.6% increase in 16 months. Yea! No speed bumps or any other improvement. Just higher prices to justify their cost to Comcast. I already used up my discount for threatening to cancel and stopped their modem fee by buying my own modem. Time to actually cancel I guess.

I have no reason to post this, but spreading more hate is always good in this case.

I guess a link would help because I'm not posting my bill from today. http://www.syracuse.com/news/index....rease_broadcast_tv_fee_internet_cable_tv.html

Petition your local county cable franchise authority--since they are giving TWC the means to TWC's end.

I have the minimum Comcast service for my area, which has a lot lower cost of living standard which I presumed is based on lower overall economics (e.g. lower average white collar salaries), but my minimal service rate just went to $66.95 for Internet only.

I'd love to have your $43.98/month bill. I haven't seen Internet pricing that cheap since Comcast took over my formerly Adelphia neighborhood and raised everyone's rates.

Luckily, in DC, we have more than one cable internet option. Just dropped Comcast which was ~$90/month for 50Mbps and basic cable for RCN which is $50/month for 110Mbps. Yes, 110Mbps.

Yeah, I should've mentioned in my previous post that I do have another option besides Bright House -- AT&T Uverse and as I've mentioned in the past, I'd pay someone else more money just to avoid AT&T.

$220 for internet? Only internet and at what speed? Or are you saying you dropped our Internet, phone and TV at FIOS and just went Internet with Cox?

I was genuinely shocked at how good the deal was. No contract, either.

On their site it says $49.99/month + a $49.99 install fee, but (without me even asking) they lowered it by $5 and waived the install fee. Pretty insane.

I'm paying $96 for TWC 15/1 + HD Cable (no DVR).

I should buy my own cable modem and save myself $6/month. Can I just buy one from amazon and essentially do a plug and play with it?

America invented the damn internet, yet ours sucks more than it does for the rest of the world.

Yes, but.

The "but" part is that you need a compatible modem. Search online for the lists. Plus it may be compatible with TWC only to be stuck with an incompatible one at the end of the year when Comcast takes over.

Would be a little more involved than plug and play but not much more.

I had to call TWC to have them switch over to the new modem and the hard part was remembering to use https for Google instead of just http with the old modem. But it is almost plug and play. You have to call to get the $6 charge removed anyways. Oh and you have to drive tthere to return the old modem.

They'll have a compatibility list. Check their list and get one of the compatible models. Then you just make a call to them and they'll walk you through the procedure.
