TWC rasing rates again. 3rd time in 16 months, up 46% for me. Fixed $14.99/mo now.

Update: Called into Time Warner twice today. Got the 2 mb/s advertised rate for $14.99 (and finally the internet speed test is actually getting me 2 mb/s). Thank you MJ at Time Warner!

The first customer service rep was very rude. He insisted that I choose between a downgrade, upgrade, or cancelled service. I said I wanted none of the above. He insulted me multiple times saying that I had to choose and that I couldn't keep the same service at a lower price. Finally got past him by asking to be downgraded (from their lowest speed, I don't see how a downgrade is possible). But he got me transferred to MJ. She was a gem. She also had an error and took 3 hours to fix it. But she got it done.

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3341488466 Double the download speed at 40% of the new price that I would have gotten next month!

I just don't understand not having consistent pricing across the board. Have you called and asked to speak to the 'retentions' department? Regardless, I suspect that if you call to cancel, that's exactly who you will speak to.

Not sure of your location, but I just checked at TWC.com and Syracuse has the $14.99 listed (again, Everyday pricing, not a promo).
It is easy considering different parts of the country have different cost of living standards. Also, cable is franchised on the county level. Some counties can be more expensive/cheaper even within the same state since the franchise system isn't state or federally regulated.

Ours (Comcast) just went up, on something like 25/5, had $30 for a year, now $50 (though I need to see if I can find the original chat transcripts...I thought it was $45) for 6 months. At that point I might call and threaten to switch or lower to the $50 6/1 plan they have as a result of the NBC merger.

note: ours went up, this is obviously on promotional pricing, etc etc, no real alternatives here outside of piss-poor DSL. The last time we tried DSL here it couldn't even sync at the 768 kbps they tried selling us.

edit: actually, downloads have been more like 30 mb down lately, this is internet only and running through an old WRT54GL I should plug straight in and see what the modem will do :hmm:

I was paying $44.99 ($53 after fees/taxes) for 15/1 which was raised a few months ago to $49.99 ($57 after fees/taxes).

They have a new deal for the Turbo level (20/2) for $44.99 (for 12 months)...

This was in the North Dallas area and I have my own modem...

Just wait for Comcast to come in. They did the same to Adelphia. I was paying !$42/month and they came in and without initially upgrading anything raised it to $55. They had the nerve to claim it was to better compete. There was no competition.

Now I pay $66.95 for their minimum standalone Internet service and AT&T still cannot deliver better than 12 year old DSL.

Man those prices suck. It's going to keep going up as people cut the cord and they need to make up the money too. That's the really jacked part.

When you think about it though for about the last 14 years it's been about the same price. Cable came out around $45 when it first started. And every year you'd get a free speed increase (at least with comcast). Until it was like 10 times faster than when you first signed up (or even faster than that).

I'm on charter now but still paying $45. 25/5 speeds. That would still irritate me though if it went up that high of a jump. With inflation we are actually paying the equivalent of $33 (in the year 2000 prices) for much faster speeds though.

$61 or so today would be equal to what $45 was when cable came out. Except again we'd be getting way faster speeds.
