Well, I hope all of you who complained about Time Warner Cable?s plans for metered broadband are happy. Shortly after the cable company pulled its metered broadband trials, it?s also rethinking its deployment of super-fast broadband in San Antonio and Austin, Texas; Greensboro, N.C., and Rochester N.Y. Whiny citizens in those communities (including me) apparently don?t deserve super-fast broadband speeds of 50 Mbps unless it?s accompanies by tiers.

A Time Warner Cable spokesman says the cable company was planning to roll out DOCSIS 3.0 upgrades as part of its consumption-based broadband trials, but it?s now ?reevaluating whether or not the trial cities are among those places? scheduled for DOCSIS 3.0 rollouts. As for rolling out next its next-generation cable network, Time Warner has been making vague statements but so far hasn?t laid out any definitive plans.

I'd rather have my 10 Mbps than a faster one with caps. As it is now, I am rarely able to max out my connection. Most websites aren't that fast.

I could care less...my internet is fast enough. Tell them to take their super-fast broadband and suck on it.

This is further proof that these broadband monopolies need to end. More competition means we'll have lower prices and better service across the board (although it may take a decade to get there).

He cares so little that he can't be bothered to care less than he already does! But if someone put a gun to his head, I guess he could then care less?

Time Warner 10-K

High-speed data costs decreased primarily due to a decrease in per-subscriber connectivity costs, partially offset by growth in subscribers and usage per subscriber.
It was highly unlikely that Time Warner was going to roll out DOCSIS 3.0 nationwide.

Not much....but I guess there's just enough room for it to be a measurable amount.

TWC can take DOCSIS 3.0 and shove it up their asses if they are planning on giving us 40gb caps to go with it.

I wish I had a choice

Same here. I'm really starting to hate giving Time Warner money every month. I'm really glad I switched to DirecTV.

They can kiss my ass. I have options, and will exercise them if need be.

As much as I want faster internet, I'll gladly stick with the speeds I have to stay away from caps. I can stream pretty well, and normal surfing email is just fine.

Wow, I just read the link provided in that article. I didn't realize that Wilson had such a kickass public network :Q

http://www.indyweek.com/gyroba...ntent?oid=oid%3A259848

Yet there's one major difference: speed. Greenlight's Internet starts at 10 Megabits per second and goes up to 100, a speed common in nations such as Japan and South Korea, yet rare in the United States. Time Warner's residential Road Runner service offers no higher than 10 Mbps in much of the state. In Wilson, however, the company recently upped its top-tier speed to 15 Mbps "because of the competitive environment," a Time Warner spokesperson said.

It's quite pathetic what TWC is doing to try to stifle the municipal efforts:

What good are faster speeds when they are accompanied by a ridiculously low 40 GB/month cap?

Too bad there'll never be a law against bribery for public officials - they'd never legislate anything, at least nothing that's solid and loophole-free, against their own income.

I just had a random awesome idea. The reason lot of ISPs have a monopoly is most likely due to the fact that running extra cables to all neighborhoods is not cost effective so different companies cover different areas. That leaves you with DSL or Cable as most houses will have both a phone line and a cable, which are run by two different companies, usually.

Now, here's my idea, a new ISP that would put up towers in key locations, these towers would beam the internet to houses using lasers, the houses need to install a laser receiver module and a sender module. These would be rather small, as the tower would have one module per customer, or perhaps just have them beam to substations in bigger neighborhoods then run wire. The towers would then hook up to tier 1 providers for the bandwidth. If lasers are not approved because they keep cutting birds in half, regular radio waves could be used, but "laser internet" sounds cooler, and would sell more. "Want speed? Upgrade to LaserInternet! pew pew pew!"

Then do it and tell them why. If you guys want to stop it then put your money where your mouth is. That is the only way. I'm starting to think TWC is making some really bad business decisions.

-edit-
Fast forward 4 years when Comcast buys TWC.
