Noticed that while playing a mp4 file (3.55GB, 720p (16:9), 3991 kbps, 30 fps) with KalemSoft media player video was slow and audio sounded distorted/garbled. Like mentioned, a reboot fixed it. Not sure how this happened.

Still trying to fix pReader (Native). It keeps initializing and then ask to add book (ePub file) to library every time I use it. Swipe to next page doesn't work, I have to press the arrow key. A reboot usually fixes it.

I use the native player and didn't notice it. I will download kalemsoft and give it a try and see whats up.

So, been playing with the touchpad since getting it Tuesday. First tablet device for me. Thoughts so far are:

-It's smaller than I expected. Based on this, I would be ok with an 11 or even 12" tablet, and 7" and even the 8.9" is pretty much out of the question for me.

-It's heavier than I expected. Not too big of a deal, but it does get tiring holding it for extended period of time.

-The battery life is pretty damn bad. less than 3 hours of general use (browsing, email/IM, mp3/some video) and down to 20%.

-the OS is surprisingly simple. My sister, who can't figure out my android phone for the life of her, figured out the touchpad within minutes. I, on the other hand, keep trying to hit the bottom left corner, expecting there to be a universal back button. There are still a few things I haven't figured out, but it feels very apple-like in a bad way (ie. very arbitrary in how you do things, and not much offered in terms of customization)

-the browser, for the most part, is great. However I've ran into a few sites that forced me to the mobile version, and there doesn't seem a way to load the desktop version at all.

What I've done to it:
-update to 3.0.4
-dev mode enabled
-turned off logging
-preware installed
-installed thumbnav and private browsing
still looking through preware for other things that might interest me.

currently holding off on OCing since it feels decent enough at 1.2ghz. and considering how bad the batt is already, I'm concerned about further degrading it.

haven't found a way to get hulu working on 3.0.4 yet

What brightness setting are you using when you are only getting ~3 hours?

That is my question also.

I've not run into any problems with usage and battery.

I can get a full workday so about 8-9 hours on the tablet before the battery is low.

But that is also with the tablet going into sleep through out the day while not in use.

I haven't actually used it for hours straight hard use to see how long the battery last.

So it may depend on your usage pattern.

When I need to do anything serious computer wise I will jump over to my desktop or laptop.

it has been confirmed by others here also
http://forums.precentral.net/hp-touchpad/304208-distorted-noise-touchpad.html

im surprised you havent experienced it. im using the 32gb, if that matters.

I did have this issue as well, but I assumed it was because I had installed some updates and had not restarted after those updates. A restart did resolve the problem.

Unfortunately, I did notice a hairline crack coming from one of the speakers when I was troubleshooting the issue. Another oft-reported Touchpad issue....

I have the autodim setting on, so I'm assuming its adjusting brightness based on ambient light?
my brightness slider is at about 70%

Just finished unboxing my new Touchpad, now to read this great thread and get to work!

Got mine yesterday as well. And only $150 for a 32gb model - Thank you Best Buy !

Pretty much followed what makken had done to his and so far I am really enjoying this. My wife has an Ipad so we are able to compare and contrast. Funny thing is, I have never used her Ipad and she hasn't touched my TP yet.

I didn't think it weighed much when I first got it, but after 20+ minutes of holding it up to read thru the Pivot issues, I did notice that it does fatigue the wrist a bit.

I'm using it to replace an Ipod Touch that was just too hard to read webpages on. At 43, my eyes have deteriorated to the point where small text is too hard to read in low light conditions, so this is the perfect portable reader for that task.

Looks like Ice Cream Sandwich source code just dropped. How long before TP gets an ICS port?

Unkown....Not sure how much work would be needed to port it but I'd think it would take a couple of weeks or more even. Of course I guess it would depend on how large the team working on it is also.

Considering that Gingerbread was never fully hammered out on the Touchpad, I would not expect ICS any time soon.

Is it me or is YouTube performance on the Touchpad absolutely horrid? This is the first time I've really tried to use it and I am not impressed. 720p videos regularly stutter, and while 480p videos play, there's little nice that can be said about the fluidity of the controls.

i've actually found you tube playback to be abit worse with the 3.04 update compared to 3.02

I do notice abit more pausing on my video's still investigating.

I installed cm7 on mine today and wow, what a difference. Initially, this was going to be for my son to watch videos on the road, but it's far more useable with cm7 on it. The videos run much smoother too. Very happy knowing this is an early alpha, some random app crashes, but far more stable than I was expecting.

Edit: my only gripe and this is with android, is the lack of app that is the equivalent to air video.

You can try Mirage Beta. It's beta Air Video client for Android so you don't have to install another server software. It works decent for SD content. For HD stuff you can long press the video and it will give you the option to convert on the fly.

You can also use Plex. It's probably the best option although I haven't used it for Android. I used iOS version.

You can also try VLC-share. I tried it months ago when I was searching for Air Video like options for Android. It worked decent but it was too big of a hassle to setup. Now Plex is available, I would suggest that instead.

You can also try Qloud Media. It's supposed to be like Air Video and you have to install the Qloud media server software. There's free ad-supported and also paid ad-free version. Only difference is supposed to be ads in the free version. So try it out. I haven't but reviews seem positive.

Or you can just boot into WebOS and use the Orb. I've used this and it worked very well. I couldn't fast forward or rewind the video but everything played fine. It's a free option and decent one. I think you can also do the same on Android without paying for the $10 Orb Android app since it just uses Flash but I haven't checked to confirm and I'm too lazy to reinstall the server software to check. Air Video and Plex server software are plenty for me. I don't need another server software eating up my computer resources.

I've been using Plex with pretty good results. Though, if you pause and let the screen shut off, it can't resume properly (to be fair, it's hit or miss on my EVO3D, too, but at least it works sometimes there).

ugh, has it improved on quality at all? I tried this on my Pre back when, just not having the ability to skip around is a deal break, personally. But quality was just so bad, I couldn't stick with it.

Question,my friend brought his new / sealed 32gb touch pad over last night, was playing around with it and he wanted to update it so I did and then afterwards every time I closed a window by pulling down and letting it spring up,off the page a comical voice would say wee !! ....

It was really cool and now today he said it does not do it and has not installed anything ?

Did anyone else's do this ?

I liked the tablet though,a tad on the heavy side but would like to grab one.

I found the quality more than acceptable. The inability to skip around did annoy me. I just didn't use Orb enough to justify keeping the server program on my computer. I already have Air Video, Splashtop Remote, and Plex server program on my computer.

I use Splashtop Remote on my CM7/WebOS Touchpad. I have both Android and WebOS version.

Tell him to rotate the tablet to horizontal widescreen position. Might have to flip it. It only works on one horizontal.

Thanks for this. Works very well and has all the features I could want, though it would be nice if I could set a default AR. The ads are only in the setting's menu and also a small bar at the top of the playback screen that goes away in ~10-15 seconds.

With Splashtop for Android, how do videos play for you? The webOS version works great for me but the Android non-HD Splashtop has a sound delay and buffers more than I would like.
