Oh, and dammit... they're both boys. (The difference between 4 girls and 3boys/1girl is about $450-$500)

One boy, one girl.
Here

I have gross pictures of them covered in slime when they were 10 seconds old, but figured a 5 hour old picture would be nicer. The girl is still a little damp in this pic.

edit: The wet pic, for MegaVovaN: here

Do you have a prego picture? I am with Loke in that I don't understand how the babies fit in the mom...

I think the first picture makes them look larger than they are. Look at the "wet" picture and it seems like they would fit.

Hey Doc, how do they get "deslimed"? Does Mom clean them (lick it off)? Does the slime evaporate? Or, do you get in there to give the little ones a bath?

I got a question too...see the cord hanging from their pup? How you deal with that? Does it dry off and die naturally?

rgwalt - maybe the slime just evaporates or mom licks it off? Drowning newborn in attempt to clean them off would be a bad idea.

Thanks, I always wondered how baby animals got cleaned up.

Not yet. My wife and I are traveling to Vermont this Spring for a cheese making class though. These goats aren't really considered "dairy goats" - milk production is too low to be worth the bother.

Yes, the umbilical cord dries out and falls off eventually. However, as a precaution, we spray it with an iodine solution. That's about it for our end... the mother takes care of them fairly well. At 4 weeks of age, they get their first shots (then again at 8 weeks)
Shots: CD&T at 4 weeks, 8 weeks CD&T booster and 1st worming.
(CD&T: for clostridium perfringens and tetanus) Plus, we may give them shots this year to guard against some causes of pneumonia.

There's that much of a goat market to be raising and selling them?

Dairy market for goats is growing rapidly.
Meat market for goats is huge. Would you question people raising cattle and selling them? More goats are consumed worldwide than cattle.
And, as far as the fainting goats go - there are less than 5000 registered animals, making them a somewhat endangered breed (although there are plenty of people preserving this breed.) If you watch much television, they've recently been featured on Dirty Jobs (twice), Animal Planet, and numerous news programs. They're among the easiest breeds of goats to raise, and one of the most mild mannered goats.

However, ours are raised as pets, and yes, the market is very good. Of the three males, I expect one of them to be sold within minutes of my wife posting it - it has good conformation, tri-colored, and blue eyes. The other two have about a 50/50 chance of being sold. The first was "taken" within 5 minutes, but the buyer had reservations because they were distantly related. (and since all the fainting goats come from 4 or 5 original animals about 100 years ago, all of them are distantly related.) For in-breeding, anything less than 20% is considered fine. We won't breed unless it's less than 10%. In order to accomplish our breeding goals, we have goats from Oklahoma, New Hampshire, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, and New York. This provided us with a wider variety of bloodlines (but, all were selected for desireable genetics.)

The male in question's relation was negligible - less than 1%. We're still hoping that the person who wanted him changes her mind. If not, oh well, someone else will want him.

Oh, and I posted 12 hour old pictures.. in the OP.
