Wow. After dusting off my ps3 to play this game i realized one thing........i shoulda left the dust on. This game is utter crap. The graphics are shit, the controls are shit, the music is shit. Just my opinion.

The graphics aren't great, but the controls feel damn near the same as they used to. IMO it still shouldn't be a full $60 retail game, but I'm not sure how one could complain about the controls of all things.

My sentiments exactly. I tend to gauge a game's worth by its single player value/replayability, and there isn't much of that here. It's a fun game, and I'm sure it gets even better with some split screen action, but, with what it shipped with, it should have been a $39.99 game. And of course, in a few months, it probably will be.

Another touch I like is the added health or weapon bonus gained from running over/killing the driver and/or gunner after an opponent's vehicle explodes.

It wouldn't feel so bare for me if the MP worked properly. Every in progress game I tried to join gave me a "network error" regardless of what I did. But if I tried a "quick online game" it would start me in a new new server by myself, which then got populated rather quickly. That started fine and once in game I didn't have any issues. But there's different game types, maps, etc so having a server list that actually works would be great.

Twisted metal takes me back to my grade school days where my brother and i would play Twisted Metal 1 on our PSX. Man.. those were good days I honestly do feel like this game genre is long gone and people just aren't interested in it anymore but it still has a place in my shelf

Have you tried the new one? It's actually pretty decent. I'm also an old school fan of the first two and I'm quite pleased with the latest offering.

Played another SP map, which really just caused more (minor) gripes. First... I hate the voice actor for Calypso. His "menacing" voice is incredibly forced and I don't like it at all. IIRC Calypso didn't even speak in TM:B. It was always in the 3rd person done by the character narrating, like "Calypso then told me I'd need to win the next challenge to win the tournament". I would prefer that as the actor for Sweet Tooth sounds worlds better.

Speaking of Sweet Tooth, I think they made his story a little TOO messed up. Maybe I'm just getting older but during the old games I would always think, "wow this guy is seriously nuts" but it was taken in stride. Now I feel actually uncomfortable with how demented they made the cutscenes. I don't know if the live action makes is worse or what, but it just seems like they overcompensated. Not sure how the other characters are yet.

Anyway, these are just mainly story and SP quirks. The game play is still solid and feels right. It's not much of a looker and there's not a lot of content here, but the underlying game behind the terrible single player is good enough.

To people that are playing it:

Which vehicles are you liking the most? I find myself using Meat Wagon, Roadboat, and Death Warrant in my matches. Seems like it's a solid mix of speed, armor, and effective special weapons.

I've been having the most luck with death warrant. Except I just tried to update my ps3 so I could play online, and now I can't even enter the game. Sweet.

Well that was weird. All cleared up nao. I think this game is going to be way more fun in multiplayer mode. I was wondering why it didn't seem that fun as before, but I remember playing twisted metal for the first time at my friends house.

edit: DICK BALLS. After 20 minutes of updating, it says I have to have an online code to play multiplayer. What kind of crap is that? If I rent COD, I can play COD online. Not the case with Twisted Metal... Is that common for ps3 games? I haven't rented a game in about 2 years, but I've never seen this before.

It's a recent thing game makers have been doing, both on PS3 and Xbox, to get people to buy new. Needing to buy a online "pass". I think it's dumb but it's how everything is going.

Yup, they're trying to get money out of the used market. It's annoying

I was hoping for a TM2 with graphical enhancements and new maps. 3, 4, Black, and Head-On didn't give me this, and it doesn't appear this one does either.

I'd tend to agree with this, but if I can't redbox to try the multiplayer without dropping another $10 I'll just wait until it's super cheap and buy the game.

That's what I've decided to do. I think the multiplayer looks like a ton of fun, but I'm not going to pay extra money for it. Returning the redbox tomorrow and finishing MW3 until the prices drop for this game.

Yeah it sucks balls. What really sucks though is when they pull that kind of crap with single player content. I can't even play all the content my copy of Mass Effect 2 shipped with even though I bought it new because I have to plug in a code and connect online to get it. For the console owners living in rural country where the only broadband is price gouged satellite you effectively just miss out on the content regardless as for whether or not you buy new. I hate EA for pioneering this trend. Now everybody is doing it.

Gave it a few more plays. Its better but defiantly not 60 buck top tier worthy.

I beat the Sweet Tooth part of the campaign. Not really feeling the drive to keep playing it though. If I had more people who I knew played it I might like it better, but as it stands now I'm pretty disappointed. Really slim vehicle selection that you have to unlock to get to... bleh, that's not the TM way.
