Twitter: Just a fad?

When I told my wife that Oprah was getting on Twitter, she went nuts and just had to sign up.

Fast forward from that point to yesterday... where my wife states "Twitter is stupid. It's like... um... just stupid. I'm removing my account."

There you have it folks... Twitter is just a fad. It will go away.

Yea, somewhat. It'll drop back to being only used by people who benefit from it, but it'll keep going for those that "need" it.

i can see the utility of it but more on a personal level, and it does not AT ALL live up to the media hype... im guessing they paid a lot of money to corporations for this exposure?

I have yet to have anyone explain to me WHY something like Twitter is necessary or useful. I'm not a Luddite or anything but I simply don't "get" the value proposition - it is really imperative that we be "connected" in every possible way, 24/7, even to the point where a 140-character text message is significant news?

Fad for sure, and hopefully fading quickly.

the only good thing about it is how quick people get the news out, ie. faster than the major news networks.

i've never tweeted but i have seen the twitter pages of Alexander Ovechkin and Trent Reznor.

I think it is neat for celebs and people breaking news. but for the average joe, it's just not necessary.

I actually just signed up the other day to follow Simmons, Dameshek, and PTI. Not really that exciting though, so I really could not care less if Twitter stays or goes. I can say the same thing for Facebook, even though I have an accuont.

To be honest, I think my wife is pretty representative of the typical American. She's not a technophile, she is socially inclined, and she is a woman (yeah, that counts ).

I didn't say it was doomed to failure, all I said is that it's a fad. Like all fads, they fade over time.

For business purposes it is very useful when used correctly..agreed on a personal level I'm not a huge fan of it.

Still for breaking news and seeing what people are talking about it works really really well.
