I have a 24inch LCD and I'm very happy with it.
I can play most games at the native resolution, however, anything now will struggle.

If you are a gamer, you should know that gaming is best at the native resolution if it's an LCD.

The 2560x1600 native resolution of the 30inch beasts out there isn't exactly going to run very well unless you plan on spending $400-$500 every 6 months or so on a
new video card.

I recommend dual 24inch screens, because you can get away with spending about $250-$300 every 12 months on video cards, and still play games at the native resolution.

That said .... AFAIK 22inch Monitors are out now, and they often cost less than 1/2 of a 24inch monitor.

Unfortunatly, the Matrox TripleHead2Go
Does not support triple 1680:1050, (and even if it did, I don't think even an 8800GTX could handle that resolution and get a decent frame rate in modern games with settings turned up.)

Perhaps your optimal setup would be 1x 24inch LCD in the middle ... for games, then 1 22inch LCD in portrait mode on each side ... you'd probably need to pick up a secondary low end cheap video card to connect the third display to ... but it would be pretty easy to get.

One 30", TRUST ME.

A friend's dad had a 24" and upgraded to a 30" and it is absolutely INSANE. I understand what others say about dual monitors, I have dual monitors, but with the resolution that the 30" can run at, you have the equivalent of dual monitors! lol

Not even close, really.

I'm thinking of 1x24" and 2x20". We have 3 monitors at work, and to be honest, there are times when we could use four or five. Of course, the IT department doesn't believe that.

If I had to buy it over from scratch, I'd probably still go with the 24". You'll be hard pressed to find games that will even run at the 30"'s resolution.

I'm not a big fan of dual monitors, and I love my Dell 30" At some point, I'm going to get a 2nd one for my other PC, to replace the old 19" CRT (ick).

2xdual 24"? So 4 monitors? No question, go the four. Hope you have a beefy system to keep up with them though.

I use dual at work and it is great for coding. At home I have a 24" Dell LCD and a 37" Sceptre 1080P HDTV both plugged into the computer, but all I ever use is the 37. Guess I just don't need dual monitors at home.

30" always go for the bigger display over the two if possible. cannot split across with a huge ugly gap on two, only have two separate pages which is good for somethings but useless for others.

I have an Apple 30", coming from dual 20"s, and while duals are nice, the 30" is big enough that you have room to move programs around so you can see multiple things, just like a dual monitor setup, but you also have the flexibility to fullscreen, which duals cannot do. If you have a Dual-Link graphics card that's powerful enough to game at 2560x1600, get the 30". It's the ultimate PC monitor, and I can't see myself ever upgrading from it.
