I forgot to mention that even people that get laid, don't like doing it with manufacturers. When I get fucked, I prefer it be on my terms ;^)

Ha, sorry for the personal dig. I won't get into an e-dick fight with you, my original comment was rude.

My point is "banning" a company is silly (unless they like kill babies and molest the elderly)... It's silly to me to take things so personally, especially when all the company is trying to do is make money..

And RE: open source, I really do like the community and what they're trying to do, I think it's great to have as many options as possible. I really like NeoOffice on the mac, actually..

You shouldn't ban Apple's products, you should make informed decisions and get the best product that'll suit you best. Try an iPhone, you might really like it!

I don't think many people buy Macs and use them to run Windows exclusively. That should give you some idea why some people are willing to pay the Apple Tax.

Apple doesn't have anything to offer me. I get universal compatibility with Windows, and a highly tweakable configuration with Linux. No hardware tie ins, or anything.

As far as the iPhone goes... I'm currently using a ancient Nokia phone with Virgin Mobile service, and it does just about everything I want it to. The big added "feature" it has is a flashlight, and I love it :^D I'd trade all the web surfing in the world for a flashlight. It good to get away from the internet every so often. I already waste too much time here without carrying it around in my pocket ;^)

I run both Leopard and Vista at home. Leopard sucks balls. Construction quality on most Apples look nice, but they always seem to find a way to f0ck up down the line. (swelling batteries, dying displays, broken hinges...)

I've never had a PC melt down so shittily as some Apple products too -- and if it did, I could replace the part myself without having to take it to a "genius" before I can get a part replaced under warranty.

Fuck Apple.

Lets say I want to buy a nice laptop with a big 17" screen, under $1000. What are my options?

PC: Dozens of models, starting as low as $600.
Mac: null

Okay fine, how about a nice laptop with a 15" screen for under $1000?

PC: Dozens of models, starting as low as $400.
Mac: null

Jesus H. Christ, are there any Mac laptops under $1000 period?

Nope.

It works great for me. The only issue I really have is it not saving folder views, and that's just a minor annoyance.

My roommate says he buys macs for rounded corners and plug - how else can I convince him?

That plug is GOLD!!

I've lost too many laptops from the cable being jerked sideways. The inlet gets so warped it can't draw a charge and since it's part of the mobo, there's no cheap way to fix it.

In the end, a Mac lappy has saved me loads of money from having to prematurely replace as a result of plug issues.

Are you setting the views for each folder type? Vista doesn't save the views globally like XP did.

I haven't looked into it in depth tbh. It isn't that big a deal to me. One typical example is I'll go into My Computer, look in my C drive, then use a back button to get out, and my system drives will be in some other format than how I left them.

It's all about personal preference.

I own a PC (back when I was a computer fanatic, I paid for most of this sucker. I dropped $600-700 on this thing when I was 15) and a refurb 13'' Macbook for university (again, I paid a good portion for it.

I find myself on the Macbook more then on my PC, even though the PC is not a foot away from me with a 22'' screen vs this dinky 13''. I just prefer OSX to XP which is, again, a personal preference. There is no need to bash somebody for simply owning a Mac.

The non-bacon part of this thread reminds me of the movie version of High Fidelity.

Barry: What's wrong with the Righteous Brothers?

Dick: Nothing. I just prefer the other one.

Barry: Bullshit.

Rob: How can it be bullshit to state a preference?

In 1875, Gator Bacon was introduced in Louisiana. Most likely, it was created far earlier than that date, but 1875 was the first recorded event of such in that area of the USA.

In 1899, Pork Shoe Polish came to light in China. The Chinese, being a very ancient culture, were quite secretive of their discovery. But being that polished shoes were a Western introduction to that land, it's not unexpected that this discovery "didn't happen" until 1899.

Yeah. OS/X is Linux. Windows is Windows. We all have our preferences. But depending on how "connected" you want to be, that would most probably dictate your choice in operating systems. If you have a thinking brain, that is.

MS should not have pulled the global application of the settings. But regardless, it's a known "issue" with how many folders vista can remember. there are some programs that can help or some registry edits. I use XdN Tweaker and the folder fix option. Tho, I haven't played around enough.

I feel it's partially the other way around... I have yet to find a comparable laptop built like the new unibody macbook/pros. they are unbelievably nice. too bad it's too expensive for me, and well, the decision to ax matte screens was #%@%! stupid.

You have to account the 2 days of your time it takes to remove all the bundleware from the Dell into your equation. Also the five hours you spend on the phone with someone in India reading off a script when things go wrong vs going to the Apple store and talking to an American at the Genius Bar. Just sayin'.

the e6500 on that site has 3 years of US based support

Really? I was under the impressions the latitudes are very well built. Better than the thinkpads. And Thinkpads are getting really cheap these days, cheaper than latitudes last i check.

Laptops are disposable as far as I'm concerned. I've had Dell, Asus, Compaq, and Acer, and they've all had fine build quality. I buy in the $400-$700 range, and expect it to last 2 years. Anything over 2 years is free time.
