1) Lexus won't get nearly the same gas mileage and does not have the same internal parts as a Civic.
2) Lexus has better build quality, more fun to drive, nicer looking, etc...but probably is much harder/more expensive to fix compared to the Civic.

Difference between PCs and Macs:

1. Macs make you cooler/more unique than PCs and pretend to be easier to use.
2. You pay for a sexy aluminum body, even though you can have any normal plastic laptop last just as long. If you drop it or spill crap on it, you should blame yourself, not the computer, for breaking.
3. Hardware is the same, pretty much.
4. I'm really sleepy.

Hey, guess what Apple! My laptop has a video card in it 2x more powerful than anything you offer in a laptop. It's also 1/2 the price of a Macbook Pro! You aren't getting my business.

It works great for me. The only issue I really have is it not saving folder views, and that's just a minor annoyance.

Are you setting the views for each folder type? Vista doesn't save the views globally like XP did.

MS should not have pulled the global application of the settings. But regardless, it's a none "issue" with how many folders vista can remember. there are some programs that can help or some registry edits. I use XdN Tweaker and the folder fix option. Tho, I haven't played around enough.

That shit drove me crazy. This fix seems to work: http://www.vistax64.com/tutori...der-view-settings.html

You have to account the 2 days of your time it takes to remove all the bundleware from the Dell into your equation. Also the five hours you spend on the phone with someone in India reading off a script when things go wrong vs going to the Apple store and talking to an American at the Genius Bar. Just sayin'.

the e6500 on that site has 3 years of US based support

All my dell support chat's had ppl that spoke good english and were VERY helpful and knew exactly what they were talking about.

Yeah, Dell comes with a lot of junk - but first thing I do when I get my dell is reformat and wipe that Vista Basic/Home Premium with a copy of Vista Business.

That's comparing apples to oranges. Even if we take out looks, a lexus has tons of features that a civic doesn't.

Better seat materials, sounds system, tires, brakes, tinting. Generally the ergonomics of more expensive cars are better, the ride is quieter etc.

If he was comparing a netbook to a Macbook Pro I would agree, but that isn't the case here. The only difference is that one has better aesthetics. If someone prefers OSX to windows then by all means buy a Macbook, but don't pretend that differences in base and luxury cars is the same as differences between laptops with the same specs.

So a metal body vs. a cheap plastic body isn't a difference? Most macs have built-in bluetooth... that's an extra $50 on Dell systems (at least the last time I bought one). Backlit keyboards, better touchpad usability... everything down to the fucking hinges on the lid just feel more quality oriented than Dell laptops. Micheal Dell built his whole damn business on cutting corners to cut costs. Dell is the Walmart of computers.

Here's a better idea, until you've actually owned and used a mac regularly, don't talk about how they are the same because it's far from it. I'm certainly not a fanboy... I'd still be using Windows just as much if my desktop hadn't died, but there ARE many little differences in the overall quality and polish of the two brands. Yes, a lot of the little differences are "BFD hrhrrhrhrhrrr" to most people but it doesn't mean that there isn't a difference.

It annoys me to shit when it's obvious someone who has no experience with the systems starts spouting shit about how it's the same thing with a higher price tag. If you have some personal issue with Apple, that's fine, but don't use an uninformed opinion as your ticket to climb aboard the hatin' wagon.

Comparing cars to laptops is a completely valid example.

A IBM Thinkpad or a nice Dell is going to be just as sturdy and comes with better tech help. PERIOD!

Macs are simply overpriced and just give you that "I'm cooler than you" look...if you're that conceded and full of yourself.

haha... are you actually saying that Apple's customer service sucks compared to Dell's?

Try waiting on hold with the fuckers from Dell for a few hours and see if you still agree.

Dell Online Chat was quite good for me. No waiting time, diagnosed and resolved my problem. I later got a chance to talk to the same rep on the phone, spoke perfect english. But this is Dell Small Business support and not the consumer support....

No cus an Infiniti and say a Kia don't use the exact same internals. Macs use the same exact internals as any other computer.

I like the part where you remove the majority of my post proving that wrong, but I'm totally convinced by your statement so I'm going to go do a motherboard swap between a macbook pro and an Inspiron. Should work perfectly because they use the same internals.

All those silly people buying Apple computers when all they have to do is pickup the motherboard off of eBay and install it. HAHAHA!! IDIOTS!

Update: Site now compares 13.3" and 17" - damn that inspiron 13 is cheap - stupid Dell Canada charges way more than Dell USA or else I might pickup one of those 13" inspirons

Why do you care what kind of computer your room mate uses?

Really? I was under the impressions the latitudes are very well built. Better than the thinkpads. And Thinkpads are getting really cheap these days, cheaper than latitudes last i check.

which new ones? I recently bought a new E6500 for one of our customers. It was nice, but still not macbook unibody nice. not as sleek/smooth, still very plastic-y feeling (but better than their recent previous stuff). I will add that the keyboard on the macbooks, while I do love the keys, they do feel cheap for a $2000 machine.

Like I said, nice, but no cigar. The new Adamo looks really nice, but it's base price is more than a macbook air! But it's a start on Dell finally giving a 2nd look at fit and finish.

To be honest, if you've used a dell mini 9 (or any of them), I'd be happy with that styling, but thinner and maybe a slightly better quality plastic. The macbook air is the near-perfect "notebook" if only there was a 10" version. extremely solid and thin.

Um, No. Although I have had an instance of bad Dell support, I have never waited hours. I have to call them all the time to RMA parts at work (we have ~6-700 machines) and I never have a problem. I just RMA'd my own monitor this week, and they Next Day'd the replacement monitor.

I had to call Apple once to RMA a clicking hard drive. Told the person over the phone that the drive was bad. She made me run Disk Utility, reset PRAM and all kinds of retarded shit. When I told her I would need to recover data off this drive, and I felt uncomfortable running disk utilities because I feared losing data, she said I had to get a fucking "genius" to confirm the drive was bad, and that they would do the transfer.

I told the bitch to go fuck herself and we ended up buying a new drive on our own. My boss was like, that was super unprofessional -- I was like, well she was a super bitch. We laughed and I placed an order for a new drive.

Fuck Apple.

I just bought a Dell Studio for my wife and was prepared to spend a whole day cleaning it up. I only had to get rid of one program. I was very impressed in how well it was set up out of the box.

I don't spend any real money on tech items any more. They become obsolete too quickly. The incremental value is just too low.

Most people would be perfectly happy with a $400 laptop.

Dell's home support is decent also. Sometimes it's hard to understand the reps, and they have you do some stupid troubleshooting, but after 15 minutes or so, they agree to send a new part which arrives a day or 2 later.

you're not comparing the same thing. dell enterprise support (or anything greater than home) is very good. they have recently made you still go through the initial routine things, but are quick about it.

i've had hit or miss w/ dell home, mostly misses. with apple care, it's been mostly good. but apple care has nothing on dell enterprise support, which is where apple is severely lacking if they want to get into that market.
