I saw an interview with a resident who said that the guys came screeching in with the cops after them. They hid behind their vehicle and had a shootout with the cops, including the total destruction of a police SUV trying to drive at the shooters. He said they just kept shooting at it until it crashed into his neighbor's car. He said he thought he also heard explosives going off (cell video doesn't support this though it could have happened before). Says one of them threw a cooker out on the street and that it did not explode but rather produced a large volume of smoke. At this point the older brother charged police on foot and was gunned down, detonated himself, or both. The younger brother got back in the SUV and drove straight at the police crashing through their line and heading west. He said that the entire time the line of police was about 60-100 feet away from the shooters.
Dark out, under fire, explosives, waiting on backup, suicidal perps, smoke screen, and insanely reckless driving do not equal bad police work. Remember these guys have probably all been putting in massive overtime since Monday as well.
