I think every taxpayer should care. A fortune was spent on a manhunt that could have been finished in an hour, including the time to bring a dog to the scene. People were removed from their houses, house by house while SWAT teams searched their houses. That was 100% avoidable by simply bringing in a tracking dog. Basically, the search was completely incompetent, especially if true that the evidence he was in the boat was found by a resident after the residents were told they could come out now.

I think forcing all the Boston area businesses to close for the day will probably have the biggest financial impact

There were many divisions shown with tracking dogs on local coverage. One point there were three dogs with handlers in one shot. When they were going house to house. Dogs may have smelling senses many times that of humans, but not perfect?

I think I heard earlier that Obama approved federal relief for all of this, so it's coming from fed coffers, so everyone in the US is paying for this.

I'm sure it was in the millions, if not tens of millions between all of the law enforcement, medical aid and business recovery.

well i wasn't there and have no experience with a tracking dog so i can't really comment on the trails of blood and how well a tracking dog could track it, as well as a lot of other information that i have no clue about. why is he so sure they did not use dogs?

And, what the hell makes you an authority on when it's too early for Monday morning quarterbacking? It was an incompetent search, especially if the rumors are true about the shed & resident finding the blood. Overlooking something like that put the public at serious risk. It's fortunate that it turned out the way it did.

I completely understand what you're saying. Obviously the response was overkill, but without the magic dog solution, how else to they ensure resident safety when they are dealing with someone who has guns and bombs, in a hellishly complex battlefield at night, when you don't know where he is, if he has hostages, more accomplices, etc?

It is also completely understandable that the government would want to present a strong show of force under the circumstances. This isn't a pair of lemonade stand stickup men.
