I have no sympathy. Little pos dropped a bomb next to a family with an 8 yo boy standing there and walked off smiling. Fuck him and his brother that became roadkill.

Agree completely. No sympathy. Clearly his older brother was a bad influence, but how many of you would have let your older brother convince you to kill innocent people when you were 19?

I hope they add vehicular manslaughter (or whatever the appropriate charge is) to his long list of charges just out of principle.

Stupid, brave or deluded?

How could they not realize there would be pictures of them? Even if it hadn't occurred to them beforehand, once they got there they would have seen hundreds of people taking pictures of everything.

More arrests to come, two were allegedly part of 12-person sleeper cell: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-...unting-12-strong-1844844#.UXM54Yqm6hA.twitter

Something is still not right here. A 12-person cell should have been able to kill more people. 4 dead and possibly dozens severely injured (just a guess) is a relatively small attack. Billy Bob in his basement could have done "better" than that.

Either I misunderstand their goals (I'm assuming to kill the most people), they failed, or this was part of a larger strategy possibly to disrupt law enforcement resources. I had been absolutely sure this was a lone wolf in the beginning since the attack was relatively simple/minor

I'm sure you wouldn't downplay this event if you had your legs severed.

I mostly agree with you, but just to play devil's advocate..

Don't underestimate the influence a sibling can have. As the youngest in my family I know a lot of how I think and act comes from them. It can be a struggle to break away and be your own person, I've gone through phases doing things almost completely because I was under the 'spell' of their thoughts and attitudes.

Add in that the act itself was not that crazy.. setting a bag down and maybe pushing a button. It's something that can be done with only abstract thoughts and feelings. He isn't using his hands to kill the 8 year old and all the others.

That doesn't wash his hands of anything of course. But I would have to assume it's more likely these types of relationships involve one person having extreme influence on the other, rather than two crazy people happening to know one another by chance or by blood.

Welcome to the real world.. 8 refugees died in a fight in a holding cell in Medan a couple of weeks ago, over nothing. Did you see that on CNN? 4 people dead is a "relatively" minor event.

Like you, yes, it does matter more if it affects me personally. Brilliant point.

Each individual event is tragic. Has nothing to do with me. Brilliant observation.

Random acts of violence affecting innocent people tends to get people's attention.

When you see things like people dying in war or fights or any other "normal" events where you would expect people to die, most people don't care about it. Even murders in dangerous cities don't raise too many eyebrows, because it's almost expected.

19 year olds have no idea what the fuck they're doing, this kid had problems - but think back when you were 19. You were still a child, in college or not - thinking you know what life is. The 26 year old was his father figure, and an idiotic one at that.

At 19 i was a M-60 gunner stationed at howard afb trying not to get shot by the Panamanian army loyal to noriega.

I revise my sentence to say most 19 year olds. There are exceptions to every rule. Most people are not in the army. Most 19 year olds have no idea what life is about, and to me that is a child.

Yes, most 19 year olds are still pretty clueless as to what they would do with their lives. But presumably all of them know at that point that bombing a marathon is wrong and cannot be easily coerced into doing so. Now I know the special relationship that his brother has on him and everything, but that doesn't change the fact that he knew this was wrong and did it anyway.

The boat's now a newer version of the "Minnow", it's got hundreds of holes in it, I'm thinking the homeowner's insurance won't cover the loss. LOL at suicide fail, he forgot to aim for the brain and just punched a hole in the back of his throat. My condolences to those who lost loved one's or the many who suffered horrific injuries and my admiration for those who in the face of extreme danger helped save so many lives..

One mystery unanswered: why they let the guy they carjacked go.

Stupidity IMO, the still-on cell's GPS led the cops right to them. Equally stupid was Timothy McVeigh's riding around in a car with no tags on it after the Oklahoma bombing, leading to his arrest less than 2 hours after the bomb went off.

when I was 19 I was in the army. I was trained in law enforcement (mostly riot control), firearms, explosives, first aid etc. etc., I had more responsibilities than most adults will ever have and if I fucked up, people would die... when you're 19 you're only a kid if you act like one, I was grown ass man when I was 19 and I shouldered the responsibility perfectly fine.

once upon a time a 19 year old was basically supposed to be going through a midlife crisis (except they hadn't been invented yet, people were too busy surviving).

Average age in my Army Basic Training company was 18 years and 2 months. (Jan '70).

In the next two years, the Army provided me with a dog, a 16, a 45, a perimeter to patrol at night, and a radio that worked most of the time.

Admittedly, there is an element of tragedy in the Boston bombing, but in me there is no sympathy for mass murders of any age.
