What a fitting end would it be if they catch the guy at the exact time and moment the bombs went off 4 days ago.

What if his brother's explosive vest had exploded under him when he ran him over?

Or if one of the marathoners caught him in a foot chase?

seeing how many people were so close to the backpack (if what's pictured/circled is the device), it's fcking amazing and a goddamn miracle there wasn't more casualties

srsly

Do we know what kind of weapons the perps were using?

Not sure. Reddit, Twitter, NBC, ABC, FOX, CBS, and CNN all seem to have about the same track record reporting details. Reports I remember said that the shooters were seen with both handguns and "long guns". Obviously they also had grenades and at least one more cooker bomb. Whether it was intended to smoke or not is unclear, but I do also recall the guy saying that it looked like they tried to throw it at police but it only went about 20 feet or so.

Also, in case you missed it, this is after they cold-bloodedly murdered the MIT campus cop, hijacked a car, held a hostage (the car owner) for 30 minutes, let him out, robbed a convenience store, were sighted, and chased to where what I described occurred.

I assume he didn't drive far before getting out, but I have not looked at a map to get my bearings on all this. It was just too much info all night. I intended to go to bed at 11PM and decided to surf while Windows updated. I caught the MIT story and found a link to the subreddit where I found more links than there have ever been before. At one point I had three news feeds running, 1 with sound and two for text scroll, and the scanner, and reddit, and imgwhereever, and twitter, and wiki, and FB, and finally AT. Just insane changing stories all night. Pure chaos. I did my best to keep up and glean the good info. Even cops were providing bad info. Before I knew it the sun was shining on me keyboard.

Where the hell did they get that sweet Mad Max truck from? I can't imagine there being a motorpool full of those waiting on these kind of events.

If that shit happened here, that would be an Impala. And the cops would be riding Rascal scooters to avoid having heart attacks.

Most towns with S.W.A.T. teams have these type vehicles.

Side question - how can the police enter homes to search for this guy without asking? They're legitimately breaking into houses if no one answers the door.

I don't now the details where the lines are drawn, but police have a legal exception allowing them to enter homes at least for 'hot pursuit'.

I have to assume this falls under the same or a related exception, when they are pursuing an active threat to the community in a limited, quarantined search.

I don't see a problem with it. Now, if they noticed some drugs in a home they enter...

a motorpool full of those of those waiting on these kind of events is exactly where it came from. special weapons and tactics is usually parked just out of sight at any medium/large event.

Maybe they've got a judge on standby issuing search warrants by the second.

They can also just knock on doors and ask to come in. No answer="probable cause."

New info. Reports says mother and brothers leaving for Russia in a few days. Maybe they never planned on the speed with which they'd be found out, and simply planned on never returning to the US? A big terrorist attack against the US might be a pretty big notch in one's terrorist belt?

They do generally have judges on standby for fast search warrants.

I heard part of Norman Goldman's commentary on this yesterday, how some issue involving the need for a search warrant to extract a blood sample from a suspected drunk driver involved the judges pointing out that an exception is not needed because with technology, a warrant is now available very quickly compared to when it wasn't.

But I don't think they are getting search warrants for each place they enter here, and 'no answer' is not 'probable cause' of any crime.

Like I said, I think it's much more likely some sort of 'hot pursuit' exception.

Hopefully no one feels the need to pull out the 'little increase in security in exchange for crucial liberties' quote over this.

It's one of the many thing that relies on some common sense lack of abuse.

Were those plans made before or after?

I guess my city just isn't big enough. I've only ever seen the 'standard' SWAT vehicles that look like armored UPS trucks. No nifty 'turrets'* on them or anything.

*okay it's a hole in the roof and a guy with an M4, but whatever.

edit: damn, they got real HMMWV's too. Up-armored ones. ARNG?

The media is completely ridiculous through all of this. I just saw an interview with his other Uncle, and it was clear he didn't know anything, and they just kept prying.

He doesn't even speak English well, and that dumb bitch kept asking "was there a rift in the family?" He had no clue what she meant.

wtf is wrong with journalists these days, it's like none of them have common sense anymore.

I wonder how tired the suspect must be at this point, he has to have been up for well over 24 hours now. If he has hostages, he can't go to sleep since he's alone and if he doesn't have hostages, he's pretty much locked down with nowhere to go and nothing to keep him awake other than the thought of imminent capture.
