One of the mines didn't detonate, and will provide intel on the culprits?

How marvelously convenient.

Transparently contrived, Mr Pompeo. It's an utterly shameful way to start a war.

Reports are that it was above the water line, which means it wasn't a sub. It didn't blow the ships apart, which means it wasn't something like a cruise missile. Within reason, that leaves an RPG, a drone, or planted. I figure there'd be reports/radar indication of the first two, which seems rather likely it was the latter. I'm not too 'up' on wetwork related to false flag operations though, so what do I know.

Boat one left from a Saudi port. Boat 2 left from a UAE port.
Saudi's want the US to attack Iranian assets because Saudi are religious dickbags and to cover the details would require more time than I'm willing to spend at the moment since most members of this forum are old people and might need a nap soon. (based on OT thread)
UAE wouldn't mind a little aggression against Iran because they want Iranian islands.
Both are hoping to convince the idiots running the US at the moment to launch the sort of operatioins we did as part of the 80's tanker war where we wiped out a big chunk of Iranian assets.

Reminder - The tanker war was started by Iraq, who attacked all shipping (including a bunch of dead american sailors on the USS Stark) that had a hint of Iran on it for several years. During this time, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the US were sending weapons and transporting Iraqi oil in direct support of Iraq in its war with Iran.....which Iraq started.
Iran finally started responding to Iraqs attack on shipping as well they started attacking ships funneling weapons and Iraqi oil. All they had were gunboats and mines in because when you don't have the backing of major superpowers like Iraq....you use whatever you got.

Kuwait convinced US to toss the US flag on Kuwaiti ships and the rest is history.
After years of Iraq attacking civilian ships, Iran is the one that gets blasted in the western media for "Attacking civilians ships" and we then start doing whatever we could to bait them into doing something.
So here is Iran, watching Kuwait and Saudi Arabia ship weapons and supplies to the country they are at war with and now those ships are being escorted by the US Navy.

After the inevitable incident we basically did the dirty work on behalf of half the region.

Saudi Arabia doesn't need to try to hard with people like Bolton and Pompeo along with foxnews.
This will likely result in bs sanctions and all the other bull we use on Iran. Worst case scenario the US kills a bunch of Iranian servicemen because Republicans like to jerk off to war porn at any cost.

Yeah, that video. Real convincing. Of something.

Kinda reminds me of a big production number that someone did at the UN a number of years ago (only more poorly done).

I would expect Saudi and UAE boats not to be used if a false flag was their goal. Looking forward to hearing the 3rd party analysis of that clip, which I'd say is no aluminum rods presentation, but this kind of attack is in no way the slick and sophisticated work of elite fighters that Pompeo is trying to frame it as. Sweet jeebus how do you say 'stealth' in Farsi? 4:10pm local time are you shittin me? This action is close to something untrained and kot-riddled Somalis pull off all the time. It doesn't take a SEAL or near peer to drive up to another vessel and put a magnet on it.

If Pompeo's words were correct, those mines would have been used by pros, who would have not included duds and would have used them correctly, i.e. below waterline next to keel to minimize detection before detonation and to maximize damage after.

TRUMP has no choice but to start a war and hope that the American people will not vote out a sitting president in a time of war...….
Unless Iran attacks a US ship or a NATO ally we can't take military action without approval from Congress.

The again, when did the Constitution stop Trump? If he started a war without approval Congress would be forced to defund the military.

Anyone remember the so called "aluminum tubes" presented as evidence before the Iraq war?

Was this after the ship was attacked? Or why was there a drone watching that ship?

Bainbridge had been on scene for 4hrs already when the Iranian skiff showed up so after attack.

There was a Poseidon full of analysts, techs and terps watching too, where that video came from I think. Hell of a time to motor up and say hi. I wonder if they got audio of that boats crew.

From my understanding, yes, the Iranian boat was removing a second, unexploded limpet from the side of one of the ships.

Kinda like a local military asset might do when trying to disarm an explosive from an oil tanker in their backyard.

Kinda not like a military asset would do if they were trying to start shit by blowing up boats.

Or I guess didn't want to leave evidence behind. Although the ship motoring up to it is pretty damning in and of itself.

I'm not convinced who did the attacks. It may have been the Iranians or it may have been someone else, not sure. I feel confident that the US military knows who did it, although I feel less confident that they are being truthful towards us. At the end of the day nobody wants this war, none of us peons anyways.

Or it could have been americans dropping mines in the middle of the night onto the boats only to blow up later. I mean they only have a carrier strike force there. They also have helicopters flying around regularly as seen by the video. They would have seen this supposed Iranian speed boat roaming around oil tankers, you think? They have radar too right?

I suspect it had more to do with a spec ops from Americans in the middle of the night, only to booby trap these oil tankers and blame Iran. My guess, they exploded early morning... That would lead to not a random mining of the gulf of oman, but rather placed there in the middle of the night and purposely targeted these particular oil tankers.

Lieutenant Colonel Earl Brown, a CENTCOM spokesman, told Fox News: "U.S. Naval Forces in the region received two separate distress calls at 6:12 a.m. local time and a second one at 7:00 a.m.

SHOCKER!!!

Lol. Come on. Try harder guys.

You think a military/state actor trying to instigate a fight by planting limpets on the side of a ship, after having two detonate, is going to motor up to the side of one of them to remove their own unexploded ordinance? While the entire world is watching them via governmental camera feeds? That's some class A idiocy and I won't buy it, not ever. The absolutely reasonable explanation is that they *didn't* plant it, and were removing/disarming it so it didn't blow a hole in a goddamn oil tanker in the middle of the strait.

I absolutely feel confident the US military/intelligence knows who did it, and they are *not* going to honestly explain the five W's of that particular event.

And you're wrong about nobody wanting this war. A lot of people want this war, just not those that will be participating in it.

Yeah..if Trump responds militarily he'll have his cause for 2020. All he needs to do is convince a few more percent. The 35 - 40 something % of his base are already locked and loaded. Although I'd be surprised if Trump goes all in on a expensive manufactured unnecessary war.

Don't worry, Iran will pay for it.

I don't know, I think it's equally unlikely they were coming to the rescue to disarm it. A bomb blew up and a nearby military patrol boat said "you know what I think there's another one, cmon guys lets go disarm it!" happened to drive up and save the day..? I mean maybe, but that sounds equally fishy.

Uh that's literally what certain members of the military do, I thought you were spun up on this shit?

The first boat on the scene was an Iranian one to rescue the sailors, then later they sent some mil in to disarm the limpet, what's 'fishy' about that again?

Man, and here I was ranting about a false flag op, thinking I was the paranoid one.
