A DRIVER spent two nights in jail after being accused of "revving his car in a racist manner".
Mechanic Ronnie Hutton, 49, yesterday described his court ordeal which finally ended when prosecutors dropped the allegation of racism.
Using an interpreter, Hana Saad, 23, said he had degraded them "maybe because we are Muslim".
Hutton said: "I've had problems with the Lotus since I bought it. I paid £15,000 for a new engine in 2003. As soon as I started the car the oil pressure light wouldn't go out. I accept I revved the engine - it's a V8 twin turbo and is noisy and frightening."

Difficult to know what to say. The driver claims he didn't even see the couple that made the complaint.
Although perhaps not very clear in the article, is that it was a police officer who made the initial complaint of racisim, and not the allegedly offended couple.
Additional things that concern me:
1) He was held for 48 hours without charge for a non-violent offence
2) It took nearly a year before lesser charges were eventually brought (because he swore at on off-duty police officer)
