Two Questions about my Asus A7V8X

1) This motherboard has onboard LAN, but I'm currently using my old realtek LAN card with this PC. The problem is that everytime the PC loads up into Win2kPro it detects the onboard LAN and proceeds to search for the driver. I'm having to keep clicking 'cancel' to stop it, and it shows up with an exclamation mark in device manager which is rather unattractive. I can't remove the onboard LAN because it is onboard! What can I do to solve this? There must be someway to tell the computer to switch it 'off' for the time being.

2) Right, after installing Win2kpro, and updating the Service packs, Via4in1 drivers etc. I proceeded to install the onboard Audio. I installed the Avance AC'97 Audio Driver from the CD that came with the motherboard, reboot, all seems well, the speaker icon appears in the system tray, but whenever the PC seems to be doin something, reading a CD, loading up an application, I get unpleasant static coming from my headphones. It's as if the sound chip is getting interference from the rest of the motherboard!? Is this a driver error? If so I don't think there are any other drivers I can use. How do I fix this? Anything I can change in the sound properties? I've played around in 'sound' in control panel but to no avail.

Why don't you use the onboard lan instead of installing another nic?
Well to fix your problem just go to device manager and right click on the onboard lan and click disable. That'll stop windows from searching for new drivers everytime you boot up.

I've got an Asus A7V8X and I'm quite happy with the onboard LAN. As kyoshozx explained, you can disable it if you want. I forget if it can be disabled in the BIOS or not (I can check if it's important to you). I would choose it over that Realtek LAN card.

I don't use the onboard audio, so I can't comment on question 2.

I'd suggest looking for the latest driver for that onboard sound rather than using the one that came on the CD. The one on the CD is probably a couple of months old.

it still seems to keep detecting and trying to install the onboard lan everytime win2k boots up.. and if i disable it it still appears in device manager sticking out with and '!'

i might take out the standalone lan card and use the onboard LAN. is it exactly the same to set up? i always though standalone is always better than onboard, ie audigy card and avance!? sound chip. if this is what most ppl recommend i'll give it a go.

The onboard chips on the A7V8X are all good parts. This is the first board that I have owned where I am using all the onboard stuff, saving money and happy with the performance.
