Two questions for Dragon + owners

I am in the process of building my first computer and have a few questions for you guys.
Do you use the FOC control on this board? It doesn't seem to pick up my fan headers that I've attached. I have an 80 mm case fan attached to it but it's only rated at 2500 rpms does it care how slow the fan is as long as it has a signal and is it going to blow out my header?

The other question is about the promise ide controller. You have to enable it in the bios? I don't have a video card yet so I can't see anything but..... When I attach my hd or cdrom to ide 3 or 4 nothing happens. Is this what it does without enabling it or do I have a problem? My hd and cdrom seem to work fine on ide 1 or 2 but like I said, nothing happens on 3 & 4.

My Dragon picks up the rpm fine for the fans that support monitoring, so you may want to check your fan.

If you want to use ide 3 & 4 as non raid ide channels yo will have to install the ultra drivers, which are on the soyo cd.

I have the same problem. I've tried two thermaltake volcano 7 fans and the FOC will shut down the MB. My work around is to plug my chassis fan with tach sensor into the CPUFAN socket. This works everytime. Hoping to hear from others having the same problem.

Yep. I had the same problem (Volcano 7 and the long beeeeeeeep) and it drove me NUTS!!! I thought I had a short and tore apart the whole rig and had the mobo sitting outside when I confirmed my suspicions. It can see the fan's spinning, but for some reason it kills the system anyway. It's a great safety feature, but a pain in the f*cking ass cuz it's not documented or explained.

There are a few options you have:

1. You can go into the BIOS and disable the FOC option, but you lose the protection.

2. You can cold-boot by holding the Ins key down while powering up, but that starts it at 100 FSB, meaning your speed will be your multiplier x 100. If you reboot after the OS loads, it will come up at whatever FSB you set (138 for me), but it's a drag and time consuming if you cold-boot. I'm running 24/7, so I only have to deal with this very infrequently, but it still sucks.

3. Use a smaller fan that attaches to the fan header.

I don't know why you don't have a video card, but you need to BOTH jumper the RAID/IDE jumper AND enable RAID in the BIOS. It's disabled by default, so you better get a video card soon.

With my machine, I did not have to install the Promise drivers at all. You do have to enable the Ultra 100 in the bios. After I did that, WinXP did the rest.
