Two routers one broadband line?

Hi folks, really hoping someone can help.
I live next door to my dad and his business (vehicle repair workshop) is sat between us also. I have a fibre optic broadband connection into my house and am wanting to extend this into both the garage and my dad's house. So far I have an Ethernet cable from the router in my house to the garage into a basic (1 gig) switch and then another Ethernet cable from the garage to my dad's house, on the end of which is a cable router. For the most part this seems to work but we often find that it kicks us off the network or it stalls (for example when simply browsing on my phone the pictures fail to load and I end up having to switch to 4g instead)
When I disconnect everything from my router outside of my house everything seems to work fine.
How should I tackle this?
Help greatly appreciated, it's driving me nuts!
Cheers Ben

Hi Jack, thanks very much for your reply and the link, it's really appreciated. So do I keep the switch in the 'middle' - the one in the garage? This effectively allows the two Ethernet cables to be joined and provides the plugin point for the garage pc....

Perfect, thanks very much for all your help, I'll re-program the end router and report back - hopefully with it all working very smoothly
Thanks, Ben

You don't use two routers, but instead, series of switches - cheap and reliable.

Hi, thanks for your message, what do you mean by a series of switches exactly? I need wifi in each of the houses but not the garage....cheers Ben

Hi folks, all works fine for awhile but then the newly programmed access point disconnects. It is fine for a while after a reboot but then it goes again - any ideas on how to fix this? Cheers Ben

There may be a problem with the power being supplied by two different homes with one network.

It may also just be a flaky access point. You didn't mention brand/model.

Hi, thanks, it's a TP link Archer C2, I suppose I could try it with a different unit?

Channels not congested, so no real issue there. Could anyone just confirm that I'm using the right IP address?
My main router is 192.168.0.1 so I used 192.168.0.2 as the IP for the access point, then saved it and disabled the DHCP, saved settings and rebooted.....
