One cap full of Nyquil / Vicks 44D is equal to 650mg of acetaminophen "Tylenol". You should not take more than 4000 mg of acetaminophen a day. Taking more, especially 7000 mg or more, can lead to a severe overdose if not treated.

Combined with alcohol, the affects can be fatal. The liver will shut down and death will occur in days.

It says on the bottle not to mix over the counter medications with alcohol. Should be obvious. You can't blame Nyquil/Tylenol for pure stupidity.

Sorry to hear that. Most people will mix various OTC cold and flu medications and OD that way. It's bad when you damage your liver and don't realize it until it's too late. The body can take a lot of crap for a long time. Once you go over the edge, things go downhill fast.

Only take tylenol and other such drugs if you really need them. Some people pop those like it's candy. I tend to load up on those when I'm sick though, but I don't exceed the max per day that it says on the bottle which is actually quite liberal. I think it's like 8. Don't think I've ever popped that much in a day. 6 is probably the most I've done.

Tylenol 3... now that is some tight, awesome stuff.

I used to take fistfuls of aspirin any time I had a headache or flu.

After a while it actually caused my liver to be overactive. Doctor suggested that small quantities of prescription drugs would be better for my health.

OK, tylenol has a maximum daily dose. If you have a night of boozing, that dose is significantly lower - ESPECIALLY FOR WOMEN! Innocently treat that morning after headache with a bunch of tylenol and you could be in for a wold of hurt.

ALWAYS treat a hangover with motrin - unless you have NSAID allergies...

The thing about drug users is tolerance. The body overcomes and adapts to the drowsiness caused by Nyquil / Alcohol mixtures so more is needed to achieve the same effect.

Impaired judgement caused by all the alcohol makes it even harder to know when you had too much acetaminophen.

Then you die.

Plenty of people die in swimming pools, too, and my understanding is that drowning can be a surprisingly quiet affair. But they're not "the silent killer."

I live on OTC NSAIDS, including Excedrin which contains some acetaminophen. That being said, I try to limit my acetaminophen consumption to less than 2000 mg/24 hours.
If it wasn't one of the ingredients in Excedrin, I'd almost never take it. It's very unusual for me to take Tylenol by itself. It just doesn't work well for me.

My pain management docs have offered me just about everything in the opioid spectrum...most of those don't work well for me either...they just make me so stupid that I don't care if I hurt.

Hm, true.

I guess if I've ever been in pain, usually from a migraine, it'll be some aspirin and then lie in bed and writhe around lightly and wait for it to stop.

Tylenol is very effective, but I prefer Excedrin for headaches and Alleve for all day pain. Thankfully Im not in constant, incurable pain that requires "management". Of course that could change one day, so for now I count my blessings. Ive lived with disease for over 20 years.

I have lots of leftover Vicoden of various strengths from my two stomach surgeries and broken tibia. They come in handy as well.

Hopefully we'll figure out improved pain medications in the future, ones which don't carry the risk of a fatal overdose. Or better methods of curing the causes. Still so very far to go...
