ELCS, yes, the nids are only playable in skirmisch/multiplayer mode. In the SP you will be playing with space marines only. The SP is said to be a lot better then previous SP campaigns though.
I know I will be playing with a named squad of Marines in the SP mode but I hope I am not pitted against Tyranids...

Most of the trailer is re: the orks and the eldar fighting the space marines. What exactly are you complaining about? Will the presence of Tyranids absolutely ruin the game for you?
The 'nids have to be one of my least favourite races of any series of lore I can think of. I have read over 20 books from The Black Library including the Smurf Trilogy and despite Graham O'Neill being a good author, the 'nids storyline did not sit well with me.
I expect to be chewed out for this but I hated the Zerg in Starcraft. Similar in the fact that they are organic, almost-bred for war-like creatures set on devouring mankind, I hated the Zerg and now it travelled to the 'nids when I got into 40k.
The 'nids have almost no backstory as of yet. They magically appeared and are currently laying total waste to the galaxy with plotarmour stronger than The Emperors and surely you have read how a splinter fleet from Hive Fleet Leviathan attacked the Ultramarines homeworld and decimated most of what was there. Plenty of ships, two Titans and the entire First Company which comprised mainly if not solely of Terminators, the best of the best.... And people thought the Smurfs had plotarmour.
They disinterest me and I suffer a strong dislike for them. I dont understand it but thats the way it is. Despite that, I enjoyed the Starship Troopers films and the CGI series.
That said, Dawn of War2 is looking very much like the Warcraft 3 side campaign (which rocked so much) with a heavier emphasis on RPG elements such as levels, skills and items... so its all good I suppose.
EDIT:
Gamespot - Tyranids will appear around about 1/3rd of the way through SP Campaign
