I thought the F117s and B2s do go in by themselfs. I don't think they will risk a B2 in something other then a real war. Those babies cost 2 billion dollars each.

I believe the B2 flew from Kansas (?) all the way to Kosovo and dropped some bombs and flew back.

I find it very hard to believe that the F117 flies all by itself (besides AWACS) because if they ever met enemy aircraft they'd get the sh#t kicked out of them.

Ya know, I'm getting pretty sick of this crap. We've been pussyfooting around with this for 12 years now. Either go in, clean house and kick his butt and distroy Saddam's military, or leave them the hell alone. It's clear that all we've done with the sanctions is hurt the civilians -- the leaders are not suffering. They will simply rebuild again, and people like Saddam do not care if people in his country get hurt.

What the heck good does it do??

<< my bad, I'm biased, at least I didn't go on about the JSF... >>

I am pretty far out of the loop as far as military aviation goes anymore. What does the J stand for; I am assuming that the SF is strike fighter.

/me would love to be in the cockpit of either a 16 or an 18, not that a 14 or 15 would be bad either, I just like the smaller ones.

Joint Strike Fighter

To be used by all armed forces, one common airframe with modifications for each branch, like arrester hook, beefier airframe and tougher landing gear for the navy. etc etc....

Clasified information my ass, if I'm going to have to get involved in this war (assuming this lead to one) somehow, I'd better know what I'd be fighting for.

It's ridiculous that most of you want this to happen.

tagej:

I sympathize with your point, but it seems like the U.S. options are pretty limited. If Saddam is forcibly removed from power, there do not seem to be any likely replacements who would be any better than he is.

If we installed our own puppet, hand chosen ruler, we violate principles of democracy that we supposedly hold dear. Plus, we virtually guarantee a coup and put ourselves right back where we are now.

If the U.S. acts without consent of the Arab world, we alienate them and make a virtually impossible mideast politik even more tangled. By acting without Arab consent, we also empower the more radical extremists.

If we do nothing, Saddam develops significant military might and then we have a real mess on our hands.

If we outlast the tyrant, support indegenous anti-Saddam movements, and maintain something akin to stability in the region of Iraq, perhaps the process of history will eventually bring up an indigenous Iraqi leader who is actually rational.

It sucks that such a course means that innocent civilians will continue to suffer, and to some extent at our hands. That's why I hate international politics. I guess that is why isolationism is appealing to some people.

<< It just bother's me that a cowardly draft dodger like Bush has the nerve to send our men into harms way when he himself used his daddy's influence to keep out of harm's way during Vietman. >>

I would hardly call it harms way, if you consider the reality of sending United States F-15's, 16's, and 18's into IRAQ, their is no more risk there than the training exercises these pilots run 3 times a day. Just another day at the office for those guys.

"It's common sensical"

Is that a real term, or yet another slip by the prez? No bashing intended, I'm just really curious.

It just bother's me that a cowardly draft dodger like Bush has the nerve to send our men into harms way when he himself used his daddy's influence to keep out of harm's way during Vietman.

How could this come from a guy who posted this recently :

<< will elect a man who dodged the draft >>

Sometimes one has to stand up for what he believes. Just because a bunch of corrupt politicians say that you have to go over and kill people who are fighting for what they believe in doesn't make it right or patriotic. To me what ever Clinton did reagarding avoiding the draft was minor compared to what Nixon,Johnson and the rest of those monsters did not only to the Vietnamese but to our own young men. Love the soldier for he is one of us but hate the war and hate the men who waged the war. There wan't anything patriotic regarding our involvement over there. Because of fiends like Nixon thousands of innocent men women and children of both sides died needlessly.

To even bring up the issue of Bubba getting out of the draft is extremely silly from my perspective, which is that of a person who was around during the time of this war.In fact my beliefs today are a direct result of what I witnessed during that time. I truly believe that you should not judge those who bravely went over there because they felt it was their duty and you cannot judge those who went over their despite their opposition to the war because they were afraid to stand up for their beliefs. Just the same you can not rightfully judge those who stood up for their beliefs by refusing to partake in the horrible American mistake called the Viet Nam War.

<< but my God they should be the first person willing to lay their life on the line to keep and defend our freedom. >>

For someone like you Fetts who wasn't even alive when that war happened it is extremely unfair for you to pass judgement on anybody no matter what position they took or their actions. I would be willing to say that based on your intelligence that if you were around back then you would have been anti-War yourself.

------------------------

Red, you are just as big a hypocrite and "myopian" as those you label with those terms.

Wow, I didn't even see that last one from Red until now.

First this from Red:

To even bring up the issue of Bubba getting out of the draft is extremely silly from my perspective, which is that of a person who was around during the time of this war.In fact my beliefs today are a direct result of what I witnessed during that time. I truly believe that you should not judge those who bravely went over there because they felt it was their duty and you cannot judge those who went over their despite their opposition to the war because they were afraid to stand up for their beliefs. Just the same you can not rightfully judge those who stood up for their beliefs by refusing to partake in the horrible American mistake called the Viet Nam War.

then this:

It just bother's me that a cowardly draft dodger like Bush has the nerve to send our men into harms way when he himself used his daddy's influence to keep out of harm's way during Vietman.

now this:

<< So Bush should not be able to conduct any military missions because he didn't serve? That makes a whole lot of sense. >>

It's a little to late to worry about that now isn't it? It just bother's me that a Coward like Bush is in charge. Frankly I like it when we inflict pain and suffering on the Iraqi's. I'd just prefer that we didn't have a cowardly bastard having the final say that would put our servicemen in harm's way. I felt the same regarding Clinton
------------

Is there an EMT in the house? Red seems aggravated, disoriented, and he is also contradicting himself. I think he might have some sort of head injury. Somebody better go check on him.

Oh wait, that's normal behavior for him. Never mind.

ChrichtonsGirl: ROFL.

"all your base are belong to us" should be the motto of the US armed forces. haha.
what better to strike fear into the hearts of the enemy than that motto on every man and vehicle.

I didn't know that a country (or two) can just bomb someone becuase they feel like it now a day....I though UN is suppose to be the one dealing with no fly zone and stuff, but obviousely now US+UK=UN.

Oh well, Iraq should have known better not to mess with US, whenever US president have problem, they bomb someone to get approval...countries of the world...watch out!!

Sure, Robert, let's tell the whole world what we know that perhaps they can figure out HOW we know it and prevent us from knowing it in the future (and potentially compromising human assets on the ground). Brilliant.

Please tell me you aren't responsible for anything expensive where you work.

highme: Don't let a Marine aviator see you call the F/A-18 a "Navy" plane -- they'll kick your ass.

Stealth probably also uses a J-STARS plane for further radar coverage. THOSE planes are expensive.
