Linking the stock market returns to federal administrations is tenuous at best, and linking them to an administration that hasn't had time to really do anything with significant impact yet is crazy.
I imagine that a substantial fall in the market instead would had been much more emotionally palatable for you.

My emotions are not tied the stock market. I prefer to see a strong stock market because it tends to be an indicator of a robust business environment (jobs!) over a bad stock market, but that's the extent of it.

Stock market literally up almost 300% between March 2009 - January 2017. Thanks Obama!
I hate this market. I have a feeling the whole bottom going to fall out once the country figures out that the emperor has no clothes. When I was younger and had not much to loose, you look at the long term and say I will roll with the punches. Well when you're a couple of years away from saying "take this job and shove it" forever and now you have significant savings it's a really scary place. Nothing I see seems like a safe investment.

This proves that banning immigrants is not economically motivated. There are obviously enough jobs for everyone.

These numbers have nothing to do with Trump and everything to do with Obama. Trump's only been in office for such a short time.

So, are we going to maintain the momentum or are we going to see the botton pulled out from under us when Trump is in his 2nd-3rd year.

It is economically motivated because a Trump supporter will tell you that those numbers are bullshit*t. The media lies so why would they believe?

Are these numbers good or are they cooked to make Trump look good? Conservative naysayers want to know if these are just more McJobs like all the jobs Obama added.

[dsf]You just exposed yourself as a RINO. You should probably polish your gun before you completely lose touch with your conservative roots[dsf]

Yeah, current P/E's are definitely inflated but I'm not sure we don't have some wiggle room left to move up in equities. But I'm still for sure thinking about selling my ETF's sooner rather than later (this year, early next year) to avoid the coming recession, which barring a crazy war won't be due to Trump but will just be a normal business cycle recession. I think it's also inevitable that an accelerated downturn will occur once it's clear ACA replacement and tax reform won't happen, as investors have bought up the market based mostly on that potential fiscal stimulus. And with the R's record on passing laws, I'd say that's naively optimistic and almost wildly speculative.

I always find it funny that people's opinion on how much the stock market is affected by a president is almost perfectly correlated with how convenient that is for their political position. As I always said under Obama even as the stock market tripled under him, the amount of influence he had over it was small at best.

I'm curious to see how the middle class fares.

How did it work out for us the last time Repubs had their way with the economy?

There's nothing like deregulation & investor class tax cuts to destabilize the economy. Hot money everywhere & plenty of risk to go around.

Labor department numbers out, 235k jobs added (more than analysts expected).

Good news, thanks Trump! He's amazing, 40% reduction in illegal immigration, great wall street gains, great job gains, all in less than 50 days. Bigly successful!

Yes yes, before some of you start whining, I'm being sarcastic.

The job number is decent, but the real good news is continuing wage growth in excess of inflation. Over the last year we have FINALLY seen some decent wage gains.

Looks like your graph shows it. The first few weeks after Election Day 2012 the stock market went downward

It's not cherry picking. It's picking the only thing we have to compare to at this point.

It's absolutely cherry picking. You were referencing Obama's performance, so the only thing that makes sense is to look at his whole term.

Although really, the idea that the president has a significant effect on the stock market is stupid anyway.
