Well, I had a lot of reactions to that. At first I was pissed that our boys were driving like that, then I read that they were doing that so that they didn't get blown sky high, then I realized that America needs to get the fvck out.

Maybe their humvees had no armor (or did the U.S fix that problem?)

Um, you are a moron. It has been pointed out in numerous threads that the vast majority of vehicles (not just humvees) have been armored for at least a year now, probably 2-3 (note, on-post only vehicles are exceptions).

Just because they're armored doesn't make them safe. My brother in law showed me pics of his Humvee which ran over a landmine. The armor did in fact save all 4 Marines in that Humvee, but he also had other stories where the Marines weren't so lucky. (IEDs, RPGs) He's going back for his second tour, leaves in 2 days.

I wouldn't say these guys were jerks. Back in those days, I'd imagine it was less likely for soldiers to be driving through city streets and suddenly, along with who knows how many Iraqi civilians, be hit by a roadside bomb or rpg.

True...I suppose IEDs weren't everywhere in the 1940s.

Still, if we want them to like us...driving like that won't do the trick...

Wow. You're just not seeing the picture are you? I guess you think the driving has more to do with the courtesy and the American image than with staying alive?

Kind of, but it made its own problems. They're too slow now, so the Pentagon is going to bring back WWII era design jeeps, smaller, lighter, faster, with a gatling or m240 or SRAW missile mounted on the back. Its a 3 seater.
So, the result will be that these jeeps won't really have to bump the cars, they'll be more maneuverable.

I find it funny that some people don't get the picture until they get bumped, at which point they immediately yield. If I knew that plenty of people would like to have that thing blown up, I would get out of the damn way ASAP and let it pass.

edit: I love the sound the Humvee makes, btw.

Yeah, I agree, this isn't all about making a public image, the morons who are against us will still be against us, and those with us, will still be with us, unless we really screw it up.
The Iraqis for the majority hate the terrorists dominating them, more than they'd start to loathe us. Only the media in general doesn't really want you to think so. Realize that CNN and MSNBC and the like are controlled by corporations--each with its own agendas, but no corporation likes Republicans...think about it. Republicans are for small but many independent businesses. The democrats want large but few corporations so they can tax the hell out of them, and those corporations can still survive.
Corporations want high business taxes so they can pay off their taxes, while small potential threats to their business will die off.
Hopefully that might have provided some new insight into the media and corporations and both political parties.

The two things are linked, you can't separate them like that - someone comes up behind me and casually dents my car just because they can... I am going to want to hurt them.

For the record, there is no room for gentlemen in soldiering.

They are working on it. They are also looking at ordering over 4,000 new blast resistant vehicles in the next few months (to be delivered as soon as possible).

Click me!

Nearly 1/3rd of all US soldiers killed in Iraq are the victims of IEDs (many are in uparmored Humvees). With several thousand IED hits, only 3 US soldiers have died in Force Protection vehicles. One vehicle has taken over 60 hits, and with only minor repairs each time it is still in action today.

Give our troops these vehicles and they won't have to speed through the streets like maniacs!

What do you expect?

Bunch of high school failures has no where to go in life and got recruited by the military, not exactly the cream of the crop of American citizens.

Great way to make the locals like you. If Canada liberated us from Bush but started ramming my car as they made their way through our cities, I don't I'd complain too loudly about people bombing them.

 Personal respect has gone down the drain since the Vietnam generation. We see it at home and abroad. America has really changed a lot for the worse in that regard.

If you guys didn't notice, about 75% of the vehicles got out of their way without being bumped. I'd guess there is some kind of rule or ordinance in place that requires the citizens to move out of the way of US military vehicles.

No, we had just literally pounded the civilian populations into dust and total submission for 4 long years. Barely left a city standing and every man of fighting age was dead, or a POW along with half the women and children dead.

That's why we haven't won a war since WWII. The collateral you protect from damage today is the little sh!t bombing your vehicle tomorrow.

So the terrorists simply need to be that in that one car that refuses to get out of the way.
