<< Throughout all this, it just amazes me how the Democrats kept on saying that all votes need to be counted and the rule of law. However, the law does not state that everything has to be on hold until all votes are counted. Time does not wait for anybody. >>

Yeah, screw it. Bush has the most votes now......why should we count any more to find out who REALLY has the most votes in Florida....

I would be all for a manual recount of all the ballots IF, and ONLY IF, it was really the most accurate way of counting and there were objective standards in use. It's been clearly shown that there are no objective standards in place, counters try to devine the intent of the voters, ballots are mishandled etc etc. Since you can't have an accurate hand count, you have to go with the most objective count, the one made by objective machines.

How many out here think if I personally hand counted all the ballots there would be a "fair and accurate" count? None, of course. Now how many think we would have a "fair and accurate" count if Chess9 counted all the ballots? None of course. And that illustrates the problem. Unlike beauty, ballots should NOT be "in the eyes of the beholder". The way things stand, with no objective measures, the count depends completely on the counters, which is not fair to anyone.

Basically what it boils down to is that there are no objective standards in Florida for hand counting, and the laws are such that they have early deadlines making such hand counting next to impossible. The dems (and the 4 FSC mini-supremes) have decided to throw out those darn pesky laws to just go for their agenda - get the Goron in office at all costs.

I wonder if one or two of those FSC mini-supremes might have been thinking about a potential appointment (by Gore) to the US Supreme Court in return for them throwing out the law and getting him into office??? hmmmm....something to ponder.

And the mighty foot of the US Supreme Court will cometh down and layeth the smacketh down and beat some sense into the 4 crooked FSC hacks.......

tagej,

Yes, one would think after a couple hundreds years of representative democracy we'd have figured out how to accurately count votes to within a minuscule error margin. Don't cry over spilled milk, though, just wipe it up. But Ds in FL aren't just crying over spilled milk they're throwing a tantrum. They look silly tossing about this "will of the people" nonsense and quite frankly I will find it difficult to recommend their party to friends and family in the future!

Are you in favor of that objective, FL-centric recount for this election or future elections? I for one don't believe it can be done in time for this one even if you agree that would be the right thing to do. But we'll have 2 and 4 years to get our act together for the next election.

I think Gore is going to shoot himself in the foot by having Boies be the one going before the SC. Boies lied to the FSC, and filed falsed affidavites. IMHO its not the brightest idea to put Boies up before the judges.

<< Boies lied to the FSC, and filed falsed affidavites >>

I think if you check into this further, you will find this a spin being put on by a right wing group.

Responsible Republican haven't been saying that has been saying Boies lied to the FSC, nor that he filed false affidavites.

I think you will see when this is all over, and ALL the facts come out that NOTHING comes of this, just another attempt by a right wing group to try and discredit Democrats. It's too bad they don't spend more of their energy in more postitve directions.

If you read as far as the second sentence of the article you will see it was filed by a

<< conservative legal ethics watchdog group. >>

Thanks, you just confirmed my point.

Uh, if you watched the FSC the first time, and then read the facts about the case Boies cited, you would be able to see that he lied, Unless you want to say a big shot lawyer doesn't check his facts? Either Boies is a bonehead, or he lied, which still makes him a bonehead. Plain and simple what he stated to the FSC was not true. And in any event if a lawyer filed something with the court that has not truth to it, hes responsible for doing so, even if he thought its true. He did file a false affidivate, thats a fact. He also lied, knowingly or unknowingly to the FSC, another fact.

So you want all the ballots counted?

Well, suppose you had the 8 county judges in Leon county count all 633,000 ballots of Miami-Dade again. Then suppose that you had the same 8 people start over again and repeat the process. Do you think that they would actually be within 200 votes of the previous count? If they were that far off, what would you do then? If you extrapolate those numbers out to the whole state of Florida, then you would have about a 1,900 vote difference between manual recounts. FUN.

I would like to see someone actually do that in a sample case and see how repeatable the results are. If the results aren't repeatable then you could only conclude that they were inaccurate.
