Canada. They could just sit back and let the friendly fire do the work...

True, true!
Canada's military really isn't as inept as you think it might be. A little outdated, but we're experts with that equipment.
Let me give you an example. In Canadian artillery, every person on the gun is trained on every job. If someone gets killed, their job can be taken over by someone else on the gun.
In US artillery, each person is trained in a specific role. Yes, even the loaders. If one gets killed, they have to get someone from the rear to replace him. Far less efficient.
Our air force? Continually whips USAF and USN air jocks at competitions...once again, our CF-18s are old, but we've learned to do well with them.
Navy? Our Frigates may be small, but they pack one hell of a wallop. I'm not saying that the USN couldn't wipe the whole thing out with a few well placed harpoons.
Canadian Infantry regularly trains with the US army down in Fort Worth, working in the MOUT site. Units from the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry (RHLI) and Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders liberally thumped members of the infantry units stationed at Fort Worth using MILES gear. In return, the canadian troops got to play with hummers and Abrams.
If the US wanted to invade, all they'd really have to do is capture, well, all of southern ontario. That's where the majority of the population is in Canada. Plus, you'd capture Niagra Falls, Hamilton, Toronto and several other major population centers.
Taking and holding Quebec, however...they hate americans even more than they hate the rest of Canada!
