Hey, I go to RIT! Good thing I live off campus now. I did suspect that there was some major warez trading going on. The school installed dual OC-3 lines to provide higher bandwidth, since freshman were running so many warez servers, people who needed to access the network for online classes from off campus couldn't.

I remember reading in an email from the school that before they upgraded the network (when it was still a T3), three people were using over 50% of the bandwidth, running FTP servers. I also remember that during my freshman year (3-4 years ago), there was a major warez site hosted by some people in the dorm building I lived in.

:disgust: people hosting warez from universities should be expelled and arrested.

Oh gee maybe I should delete my mp3 directory. Or check to see if I can find my windows and office licenses

Hahaha, oh man that's rich.

What about the people hosting not on university campus's? Are they above the law?

PS, YOU SUCK (literally).

Oh and by the way, who here thinks that whoever the guy is who wrote the CNET article, is also the same guy who wrote the quotes like, "we're down, but you can never stop pirating!". Hell, not to mention all the kids of the cops who are doing the raids pirate.

On my list of "Things to Worry About and Get Really Stressed Over", I think I'll put the fear of the FBI kicking down my door because there might be something questionably legal on my HDD at about #1846.

It makes about as much sense as worrying about the Microsoft jackbooters crawling down my chimney because I might be using one copy of a Windows OS on all five of my rigs.

Not that I approve of pirating or Warez.

for starters, they were a release group. And not very well known or distributed for that matter. Unless you rip, crack, scan, host/pub, and compete for 0-second/day, only thing you have to worry about is the size of your cd binder. Also keep in mind, 75% of all warez and the like easily come from Asia...they have fleamarkets (warezmarkets) dedicated to it.

They do not pick out individuals. Unless you stand out by distributing/selling pirated software, break into a government computer, or release a virus which manages to get a lot of publicity, you are pretty much safe from the government.

They can't pluck much from individuals, so the research/action would cost them more than they would benefit from it.
Same with individuals smoking weed. A larger percentage of people in the US has used weed than in the Netherlands, while it is forbidden in the US. Yet they don't beat down doors in order to try and find the 2 grams an individual user may have for own use.
