U160 vs Ultra-Wide Performance Question

Here is my configuration. My RAID controller went bye-bye and I am using an old Adaptec 2940 on my Plextor UltraPlex Ultra Wide and my single Atlas 10K (U160). Would I see a large performance increase if I get a replacement U160 card for the current 2940 I'm using? Or for this type of configuration, would it just be money down the drain?

If you're happy with the current level of performance, then you would probably
be better off saving your money for the time being.

There were at least two versions of the old 2940 cards made by Adaptec, the
really old model was Fast SCSI-II but not wide (50 pin), the other was Ultra
Wide. If you have the UW version, you should be just ahead of the STR of
the Quantum drive, and well ahead of what the Plextor needs. If its the
older 2940, then you probably would be in a position to increase performance
for the Altas by at least going to an Ultra-Wide or U2W card. IMHO.

with a single u160 drive, I doubt you'll see any performance gain with a new u160 controller(since a single HD won't be able to utilize the full 40MB/s anyway), but if you later on get more u160 drives at a later time, you'll want to purchase a u160 controller. If you are planning to utilize the drives at the same time that is.. otherwise, UW's 40MB/s should be enough(for any single HD access).
