One part cold-reading, one part statistical probability, one part paranoia - stir, serve and enjoy.

You mean this free "service" isn't actually free??

That, Facebook actually gains something for allowing me to give them my identity, buying habits and social connections?!?

Beside the point; beside the reality, and, sorry, a dismissive generalization.

You can find ways of monetizing something short of the emerged reality of Fakebook.

We are now in The end justifies the Means/the sky is the limit territory, and anyone not creeped out by that, anyone who rolls over for that.... I do not wanna know.

So I just did this thing. It's not even close. Not close on salary, not close on passwords, not close on where they could find me (and I check in ALL THE TIME).

This is stupid and not creepy at all. I am giving facebook information voluntarily. This program should be much better than that.

I think most people are very well aware of the information they are giving facebook.

I beg to disagree. and, it's not what one gives, it is what is being done with those data.

This app is just a circle jerk for the fakebook (OMG FAKEBOOK SO AWESOME) haters.

Sorry, I am not a fan of facile, cavalier generalizations/broad brushings, be they dismissive or worshipful.

I actually had to click on your link to realize you were talking about Facebook. How am I supposed to know if you were not actually talking about fakebook with the internet as it is today? Don't be one of *those* people. You are not clever.

Yep. Guilty! I made an editorial spin.... hardly one I invented, in no way some quantum leap... rather, one which pervades; one most people are beyond familiar with. I regret yr bitterness.

so, what you're saying is that FaceBook, like all the other so called "free" sites, mines your info that you willingly give and sells it to make a profit?

color me shocked. how are they different from google for example?

edit: FaceBook has an API for using their graph database. I assume this uses it. It's pretty simple and easy.
this isn't a privacy invasion. If you set your privacy settings accordingly, you don't share anything you don't want to with anybody.

With my account, basically only my name is publically visible. Not my friend list, nothing. And you can only send me a friend request, if you're a friend of a friend.

Well, observing a line being crossed re privacy invasion, I got rid of everything Google over a year ago. Everything. Including delving and making IXquick my default search engine. IX does not track.

Re Google vs the emerged reality of Facebook......the latter takes it all to a whole other Universe, given what members offer, re images, "friends," all of it.

The level of potential invasion and exploitation re fakebook is FAR greater.

There is no privacy invasion because nothing you put on facebook is private.

True and beside the point: same is true for anything we send or receive via email. Which is why FAXing will remain a viable tehcnology.

But.....it's a matter of DEGREE. And, I submit, the challenge is to explore that and come to own the (changing) specifics.

Courts in America take new cases re privacy all the time. Including, the High Court. Nothing here is static.

why is FAXing so secure? it's unencrypted and anyone listening on the phone line on either end or anywhere in between can make their own copy.

And what is this fakebook you speak of?

Nothing is 100% secure when there are humans involved, never will be. And, there are no guarantees in life in any endeavor.

But, there are good reasons government agencies permit faxing confidential info and do not re transmitting data via email.
