I think yes, for $80 or $50 you can get alot better performance. Your system is fine.

edit: unclebud he has a 1.6Ghz cpu, by no means a "slow" cpu.

Whats considered a good overclock that can be run 24/7 with these cards. I have a 64mb 8x version with heatsinks on the ram which is only on the front of the card. LMK thanks

hard to believe the economy is bad with so many people buying stuff (even though we might be buying them under cost).
does everyone actually have the money to pay off what they purchase?
or they just stay on the credit card?

picked up 2. one for me and one for my brother. didn't get the 128 mb version, both were 64 mb version. still, for 80 bucks each, it was a nice upgrade from our old geforce 2s.

before this, we were both gaming on 2+ ghz processor with old ass geforce 2s. was horrible.

Just did a sold order at the Best Buy computers on mine. Fun fun fun. Now I just gotta wait bob knows hold long until it arrives.

Even if it's not the 128 MB version, it'll still be a damn nice upgrade over my GF3 Ti200.

Well, I picked up the last two at the Galleria BB in Houston. They were supposed to have gotten 5 in their night shipment and the manager was going to hold two for me. By the time i got there, all they had was an open box return and a new one in a dinged-up box. I purchased both and figuring the open box had already been tested by a fellow AT'er, opened the new one and installed it. It's 128mb/8x and I'm happy.

Of course, since I don't really do any gaming, I really can't tell the diff b/w this and the onboard vid that I was using before. I mainly wanted the DVI capability for the new DELL 18" LCD. Guess I might just have to grab a game now so I can put this thing through its paces.

Thanks for the hot deal.

I'm in the exact same boat as you waiting for my order to go through so I can upgrade this GF3 ti200

This thing is a great upgrade for any gf2/3 card. I went from a gf2 pro gts at 4550 3dmark 2001 score to 11000 just by upgrading to this ti4200 and overclocking it a bit =) . Best 90$ I ever spent.

**BTW everyone. I was reading around and am questioning the existance of a true 128mb Card. A friend of mine bought one of these that ended up being a 128mb card according to his computer but the thing looks exactly the same as mine. His default clock is 513 just like mine was which is a 64mb card. If you read around all the reviews show that in fact the 128mb cards memory is clocked slower at 444. To me this sounds like pny may have accidentally/purposely put the 128mb cards bios on a few of the 64mb cards which would fool your system into believing that it was a 128mb card. The only way to truly tell would be if someone took off the heatsinks on memory of the card and actually saw them labeled as 16mb each which would be 128mb. If anyone with the know how could take off the hs to find out whats really up with these cards it would be appreciated. It doesnt seem likely to me that pny or any other big company would mistakenly give out 128mb cards in 64mb boxes. And now best buy sells them for 79 bucks? Seems fishy. Anyway let me know what you guys think. THANKS***

I just read something about all these cards that show up as 8x look more like the 128mb card then the original 4x 64mb card. I wonder if they found out that they had packed 128's in the boxes and flashed as many as possible to the 64mb bios. In that case we can all flash our cards to the 128mb bios and we're set? SOmeone take off the heatsinks and let me know so I can sleep .

That is an interesting observation. I think most people are basing their belief that they have 128MB cards, on the bios display they see on boot up. If it turns out that they are really 64MB, it shows that the difference in memory size makes no real life difference (at least at this point in time). Otherwise, we'd be hearing a lot of complaints.

I hope that someone can determine if we all got so excited about nothing.

I had a 64MB card (according to the display on boot up) that I purchased several months ago and it did look different -- it had ram and heatsinks on both sides of the board.

Don't know if this helps, but the 128meg cards have a different UPC number on the sticker on the bottom of the card. Isn't this 128meg card an 8x card, while the slower 444 mhz clocked 128 cards are only 4x cards. The PNY site indicates the 8x cards are the newest addition to the TI4200 line.

My windows XP 's device manager shows this card is 128MB 8xAGP. When I boot up my computer, it also shows 128MB. Considering the UPC and model number on the label, I would say the chance that this card's memory is 64mb is very slim.

I also ordered the 9500 NP but the hack did not take very well. I would have returned it anyway since the 4200 is plenty fast and was much cheaper.

How does the 2d text compare on this card to something like a Visiontek GF3 Ti200? Just curious.. I don't want anything with fuzzy text.

TIA,

Sal

Alrighty, went to Best Buy, and they had two on the shelf. One with sticker, one without. Got the one without and it's the 128MB according to what I've read here. Marked at $79 and rang up at $79. It was like Christmas opening that box and anticipating the 128

Thanx to all who contributed here. I'm gonna play UT 2003 one last time on my GF2 MX and then plug this new card in and play again to compare. There better be a noticeable difference.

get a better monitor if you don't want fuzzy text, and make sure your resolution/DPI is synched to the optimal setting for your LCD monitor (if you are using LCD).

eck, PC133 ram? are you using an Intel 815 chipset? that is your biggest problem--you need a DDR system more than anything. yikes, you would have better performance with a Pentium 3 chip in that system.

Last night I went to BestBuy in Northville, MI and Westland. Neither had any in stock. I did go to the in store kiosk and saw it on there for 79.99. I was stupid and didn't order it because I was going to check some other locations that I never made it to. Does anyone know if today it still shows as 79.99 on the in-store kiosk?

Can't speak to DVI output on an LCD, because I don't have one. But on my 19" NEC multisync via VGA connector (@ 1024x768) the 2D and text are just fine. I upgraded from a Matrox, which is know for their 2D quality, and I can't say I'm suffering one bit with the new card.

SignusX,
I ordered one last night at my local BB. No problem. The sales guy said he checked stores in the 5 state area that had the higher price so he knew they would have them. The other store manager didn't want to give up the card for nothing so my guy made a store trade with them, 2 cable modems for 1 videocard. Plus he did this after he was supposed to leave so he was working overtime.

All I can say is Wow! How often do you find yourself braggin about how good your BBY sales rep is. It was great to work with someone so competent at BBY. That's the second time at this store I've found a competent and good sales guy.

Good Luck,
Pigseye

Had to admit it but I succumbed to this feeding frenzy and had less than desired results.

Purchased a card at CompUSA on Sunday without any stickers. It wasn't on display, the CSR had to retrieve it from the stock room. Seems like anymore, the "hot" deals are not put on the floor but are kept hidden in a stock room. You have to ask a CSR to get it. Don't know what that is all about but par for CrapUSA. It turned out to be an 8X 64MB card. Memory and heatsinks on both sides of card.

Purchased a couple of cards on Monday at BB which had the "crushes" sticker. Opened one and it was a standard 4X 64MB card. Memory and heatsinks on both sides of card. Safe to assume the other box contained same so didn't open it.

Went back to BB yesterday and found another card, discreetly tucked in between some MX420 cards. This box didn't have any stickers. Turned out to be another 8X 64MB card. However, this one must have BGA memory because there was no memory or heatsinks on back side of card.

So, no 128MB cards for me.

Installed and fired up both of the 8X cards. They each OC'd to 600 without any problems. Ran Mad Onion benchmarks...disappointed that there wasn't a larger increase in OC performance compared to spec 513MHz. Regardless, both cards are excellent values for $80 + tax and will be replacing a couple of GF3's in my sons' computers (they have no idea how lucky they are to have an upgradaholic for a dad!).

Haven't made up my mind what to do with the opened 4X and unopened box but likely will be returning to BB unless someone in my office might want them.
