Uber or Lyft?

Which one have you used or recommend? Who's cheapest and what is this Uber XL and what not?

I downloaded both Apps as I may need to use them.

Used a bunch of Ubers with friends and they were great. Lately I've been using Lyft since my car's been in the body shop all week since Monday. Nothing but good experiences with Lyft as well. Actually about to call a Lyft to get to an appointment as my car won't be ready for a few hours. And then I'll be using a Lyft to go pick up the car. As far as price, I'm sure if you Google it there will be some analysis to read online.

Used Uber XL once to the airport. I found it no cheaper than a taxi.

Maybe it was surge pricing during the morning rush but the taxi (same time different day) came out to $43 and Uber XL came out to $48.xx

For the airport, I generally take an airport limo. It's like $10 more than a taxi but more consistently clean and on time.

Haven't used Uber or Lyft myself, but used Uber a couple of times for my mom. It's OK, but really just a taxi service with a modern app, but crappier insurance.

Lyft seems less evil but I haven't used either one. I use a service (Shuttle Express) for the airport.

Generally positive experiences using both.

Oh, and make sure you take advantage of any first-timer coupons. I think Uber gives you $25 and Lyft gives you $5 off your first ten rides, or something like that. Reason enough to try them both.

Ah! That makes sense now, thanks. Lyft clearly stated in the App I think if you need more than 4 seats.

I'll usually use whichever has a ride closer to me, but I've been using Lyft more lately. I like that they let you tip the driver a few dollars through the app. And Lyft keeps giving me $100 in ride credits each month ($5 off 20 rides), so that almost always offsets the tip for me. That said, I only get 2-4 rides a month -- usually drive unless I'm going out to some place without parking or I'll be having drinks.

I did use a regular taxi last month to get back and forth to the airport though. There is one company here in the Triangle that specializes in airport transit. They are always on time when you schedule a pickup and the booth at the airport is just as easy to use as a ride sharing app. Pricing is about the same for that too.

BTw, the cars I have gotten have been much cleaner & in better condition than Boston taxi cabs, the drivers were friendly & normal! Not have to sit in a smelly taxi with a seat with busted springs after chemo is such a relief.

Lyft is cheaper and generally a better experience for the customer--they also treat their drivers a little bit better.

Both suck though because they effectively steal from local municipalities. Avoid all instances of "sharing economy" whenever you can--though that is certainly difficult because Uber/Lyft/AirBnB are super cheap, and it really is hard to beat cheap...of course, that assumes "cheap" is worth the declining infrastructure and services in those cities that have been infected by "the sharing economy."

I've used both. I prefer Uber because I can Uber pool and it's like $3. I don't know if Lyft has added that option as it's been awhile. I've heard drivers get paid more from Lyft, but I don't give a shit about them; get a real job. Both are terrible companies who can't compete with Taxis on a level playing field anyway.

That why you have taxi cab apps as backup. I once wanted to use Lyft and they wanted 50% to 75% Prime I went to Uber and no surge. Though I still had my taxi cab apps as backup if there was surge with both Uber and Lyft.

We don't have Uberpool here. I kinda wish we did though.

Uber is already rolling out their driverless service in Pittsburgh. I think the current projections are ~10 years for near full-automation in major metro areas, but I bet it's really going to be taking hold 5 years from now.

Ford is also ahead of the game when it comes to rolling out level 4 automated cars, and their target is 2020 (they've been developing them for more than 10 years now)

Uber and/or Lyft--or perhaps some upstart like Juno that is basically steeling Uber's mojo--taking their drivers while piggybacking on all of the legal mumbojumbo and R&D that Uber has invested in are pretty much the only game for that tech.

In my social circles is seems that "Uber" is the trendy service to speak about -- so much so that's is been verbed in to "Uber-ing" to the bar or "Uber-ing" home. Still, I haven't used Uber itself in ages, and try to use Lyft at every opportunity.

If you take a ride in either service, the odds are almost certain that your driver has worked with both companies. Ask them who is better.

In Chicago last weekend, I linked my Android Pay account to Uber and got the promotion of 50% off(up to $5) for the next 20 rides. Getting Ubers for only $3-8 to get us all around the city was great. Cheaper than a taxi or even taking the subway.
